Question HTTP Error 407: Proxy Authentication Required

Hi,

I am new to Calibre and find it to be amazing.

When trying to download news or metadata I get the following error:

HTTP Error 407: Proxy Authentication Required ( The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy filter is denied. )

This only happens at work when connected to the LAN. At home I connect via Wi-Fi and it works perfectly.

I am running Windows XP and Calibre Portable.

Is this a Company Firewall issue?

Thanks!!!!!!

This sure sounds like a corporate firewall issue....

It may also be because you are trying to use the same IP address as you use on your home network and the one you use is not valid on the work network. Have you gone through the steps required in your home router in terms of port forwarding that are needed to allow the calibre library to be accessed via the public Internet?

No, I connect at home via 3G. For home my I.E. LAN settings is set to "Automatically detect settings" and for work it uses a proxy server that I have to set.

If you are connecting a home via 3G then this guests to me host you HAVE st up the requisite port forwarding?

Perhaps it is worth providing examples (suitably obfuscated for security) of the url's that are OK at home and fail at work? It may be that it is something as simple as the fact that work requires some sort of additional authenticaion because of the port you are trying to use?

I have to be honest. I did not set up anything at home. I just plug my 3G dongle into my laptop and it connects to the internet.

I also have a mobile wi-fi router which I just switch on and connect to with my laptop with the provided password. I can then access any website.

At work I cannot access all websites as they have a thing installed that filters out certain websites. I am sure this is what is happening when I try getting any data with Calibre.

Thanks for all the help!

@Pieter: That is the proxy in your company. I have the same issue.

@All: I would like to workaround this to use a plugin I have just installed. Does anyone know where I setup the Proxy settings?

For Windows go to Control Panel - Network and Internet - Internet Options - Connections Tab - LAN Settings - Proxy server area. Or go to Internet Explorer - Tools - Internet Options - Connections Tab - LAN Settings - Proxy server area.

Oh OK, unfortunately I'm not allowed to do that whilst at work... will have to wait until I get home from the oil rig. However it would be useful if Calibre had settings to use a particular proxy.
