B&N Credit Card and ebook purchases?

I recieved an offer from B&N for a credit card, and it says that it gives 5% cashback on all* puchases. Reading the FAQ, it says:

Quote:
It's simple. When you use your Barnes & Noble MasterCard to make any purchase (other than Barnes & Noble Gift Cards purchased through the Barnes & Noble Gift Card Corporate Sales program) online at www.bn.com and in any Barnes & Noble store nationwide, a credit in the value of 5% of such purchases will be posted to your Barnes & Noble MasterCard account. The 5% credit will appear on the same billing statement as the charge for the related eligible purchase.
I'm a little surprised at this. I thought it wouldn't be allowed for Agency priced ebooks. I checked Amazon, and Amazon doesn't provide rebates for Kindle download purchases.

Anyone have this card? Do the rebates/rewards work with Agency ebooks?

Thanks.

In this case B&N is not discounting the agency ebooks. You pay the full price for the agency ebooks, there is no discount.
Mastercard (not B&N!) gives you a 5% cashback because you shopped at B&N.
B&N is not discounting the agency books. The agency publishers can do nothing about casbacks from a credit card company.

I have the card and get the 5% on all B&N purchases, including on ebooks and the Nook. In addition, every dollar you spend using the card (although I don't believe it includes B&N purchases) earns you 1 point towards a $25 gift card. 2500 points gets a $25 gift card automatically mailed to you. And the gift cards can be used to buy B&N ebooks. I have found the card well worthwhile, but then I buy a lot of books from B&N.

This is correct. B&N doesn't issue the cards, they just allow their name to be put on them. The bank that issued them is giving the cash back. My American Express does this (and always has, since I bought my first nook). I'm not sure B&N is even aware of it.

Sure they are. They offer it on their website. They dedicate some FAQ to it. They disallow some things (like gift cards).

It still seems "sneaky" to me.

Sneaky how? It's not much different than earning points on Kindle books with an Amazon Visa which you can then use to get Amazon gift cards (among other things).

Oops. You are correct. Sorry about that. I was confusing getting points and using the points (I think):

... Are there any products I can't buy using Shop with Points?
Shop with Points is generally available to buy millions of products on Amazon.com. Please note, however, that rewards points cannot be used for all purchases on Amazon.com, and items that currently may not be purchased using Shop with Points include some digital goods, some gift certificates, Kindle downloads, Subscribe and Save items, and AmazonFresh. Please also note that currently you may not use one-click to purchase products using Shop with Points. ...

Yes, you can't use points to buy Kindle books (or other downloads), but you can use points to get a GC and then buy Kindle books with the GC.
