New Fonts cutting off at the margins
Hello, all.
I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into why fonts that are saved through High Logic Font Creator sometimes get cut off at the margins when viewed on the Kindle. In particular, italicized fonts seem to have this problem. Note that this happens even if I simply open and save fonts in High Logic Font Creator (i.e., it's a problem even if I don't edit the fonts in any way). While I'm primarily concerned with the Amasis font, this seems to happen with any font that I open and save. The version of High Logic Font Creator I'm using is 5.6, if that makes any difference. Thanks for any insights you may have. |

Which Kindle, which FW version, and in case you're using my fonthack for FW 2/3, which freetype engine?
(Wild guess: broken bounding box settings. Check the ascent/descent/bearings & co). I dimly remember a similar issue a while back, so you may also find something interesting in this very subforum with a careful search . I've never had any issues with Fontforge, FYI. (But then, running Linux, it's not like I had much choice ;D). |

I should have provided more information. Thanks for the thoughts, NiLuJe. The Kindle is a Kindle 4 NT, with the latest firmware version. The font replacement is done through an edit to reader.pref, in accordance with instructions located throughout these message boards.

Okaaay, that probably leaves you with:
* Fixing your font (ie. making your font editor behave, or trying another). * Using the bci freetype lib from the K2/K3 font hack, which may (or may not) help with buggy rendering on custom fonts. The downside is that it's built for the older CPU used in these devices, so performance may not (or may very well be, I don't have a K4 to run benchmarks on) be up to par. I realize it's been 9 months since you posted the problem, but I do have a solution of sorts. If you change from Paged mode to Flow mode, the problem goes away. You can still flip pages instead of scrolling, if you want.
Hope this helps. Last edited by lmalinofsky; 03-04-2013 at 01:14 AM. Reason: grammar |

Besides this thread being 9 months old, I guess you're also talking about some whole different issue or setup: I'm not aware of any paged/flow mode distinction or setting in the original Kindle software.
