Hello from new PRS-505 owner

Hi all,

I have had my Sony 505 for a couple of days and love it.

BTW, I have can't seem to access the BookDesigner designer files. I have loads of RTFs on my hard drive that I want to put into the 505 and would like to create table of contents.

Glad to join.

Welcome to MobileRead hfrummer.

The best instructions for installing BookDesigner files are in this thread.

Glad to have you here. If you have any questions, just ask.

Thumbs up Thanks!!!

I tried to get the files off the Russian links but only corrupted ZIPs downloaded.

Look forward to creating my own books.

PS I am not as unhappy as I look.

Welcome to the Forum.

Be interested in how you like the Sony 505 as I am contemplating getting one in the New Year

Really like it but...

I have only had it for a couple of days. I was thinking of getting a refurbished 500 from Sony but the 505 is much nicer.

I am new to this hand held reader world and was very skeptical about it but I am now sold on it. My eye sight is just not as good as it was and so making the fonts bigger is really great.

I have a very large library of files on my computer that I was just not going to read without this kind of device.

The idea was kindled in my mind from reading about the Kindle but did not like the fact that I had to depend upon them for getting content onto my device. I also refuse to buy something sight unseen. One a held a 505 at a Borders, I was sold.

Best of luck to you.

Hello to all,

I recently received my PRS-505 for Christmas and it goes everywhere with me. I've vowed to be frugal and not buy too many books. Unfortunately that vow only lasted a day before I purchased a few bundles of books. WOO-HOO. (dancing joyously around in circles with my reader)

I've got one of my novels ready to download to Scribd, but I can't figure out how to create a table of contents. (I'm in this thread because someone else asked this question at the beginning.) In my case, the table of contents would be chapters in my novel. I use Mac OS. Any help would be very appreciated.

Hello hfrummer. Welcome, WELCOME, to MobileRead. I, too, own a Sony PRS-505 and enjoy it very much. Actually, the Sony was the second reader that I purchased, and my hubby was not sure he approved of me spending the money for it, but then he saw the cover with the lightwedge built in and bought that for me. We take a lot of long trips in the car and he prefers for me to be reading on the Sony after the sun goes down!

It's a common misconception that you have to use Amazon's wireless to put content on the device. I use exactly the same process with my Kindle as with the Sony. In fact, I have some of the same books on both devices since I really like to buy the multi-format books from Fictionwise and Baen/Webscriptions. I did buy my Kindle based solely on the web site information, but I was quite comfortable with that decision as I knew Amazon had a 30-day return policy and if I hadn't found it worth keeping, I could return it for a full refund. A couple of months later, I had the opportunity to see the Sony in a Borders store and realized that it was a good choice as well -- then when the opportunity came up to purchase a used 505, I jumped at it.

We're glad you've joined us at MobileRead.
