Author and Series database
Is it intended to add Author and Series databases to Calibre?
I've got the time to help, but have no idea of how to start - my programming skills are limited - I have some vba and vbs experience. |

Simply stated: A fresh Library (DB) has no Authors, No Tags, No Publishers, No Series There are NO preloaded values. Previously used values are purged when the last usage goes away (title deleted). |

IMO the best way to start is by using the download metadata function. this will (usually) give you correct series and number.

I don't know what a "series database" is, but as Helen says there are metadata plugins available like Goodreads which will populate the series field for you.
As for an author database, that idea has been thrashed around in quite a lot of detail in this thread below (and a few others if you do a search). https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=139133 It resulted in chaley adding a change to calibre allowing you to link an author name to wikipedia or some other external site of your choice. So each and every user does not have to maintain those author details themselves. |

And those of us who don't want to wade through Wikipedia or homepage can make up their own txt/doc file and link into that. I do love the ability to choose!
