Push to kindle via Email initiated via website
Im wondering if there is anyway to add a button to the webserver for calibre, that would initiate a email push to my kindle?
If this has already been made or discussed, im sorry but ive been searching for 2 days and nothing. If nothing like this exists, could it be achieved through a plugin? |

If you already have a webserver, you can simply download books from it directly onto your Kindle. Why bother with email pushes from the server?

1. The full site is easier on the eyes 2. If you have a kindle 4 (non touch) like I do, using the keyboard to search is horrible 3. I tried using the experimental browser to download directly, but for some reason the kindle will crash randomly when downloading (it will crash 1 out of 3 download attempts). Such a bad crash that I have to reboot the kindle. |

Well if you want to add that functionality, then you will have to run calibre from source and modify the server. There's no way to do it with a plugin.

1. Most of my books are epub format. Currently. accessing the web server through the Kindle will only allow me to download mobi formatted books. If there was a new "email" button on the webserver that would email the book to my kindle, any book in epub format would automatically be converted to mobi format first before emailing. 2. The browser on the Kindle sucks. I would like to have the option of using any browser on any device (phone, tablet, laptop) to access my calibre library and email a book to my Kindle, and have it automatically converted first if required. 3. Don't want to be forced to use the Kindle to load books onto itself. I could be away from my Kindle, or my Kindle could be packed for a trip, or not charged. I would still like to be able to send some books to it when the thought occurs to me. Can you please give some thought to adding this feature to the webserver? |

So before you go to bed tonight select all books and convert to mobi. And go to preferences->adding books and check the box that says convert all added books to the current output format. As long as your output format is mobi you will never not have books in mobi again.
As for the rest, again, when you fell like reading a book, simply use the browser on the kindle. |

So, I am curious, why would you object to adding the functionality? |

Hmmm... I have scoured this forum looking for any information about this, and I don't recall you explaining why you won't add this feature. In fact, this was the only thread I could find about this topic.

Of course, it will also get wiped out every time you update calibre.
The author should mention the need to use the $CALIBRE_CONFIG_DIR/resources/ folder to contain any modifications to builtin resources such as the content_server/ folder. |

The content server is read only converting books in order to email them requires the server to make changes to the db. It could theoretically run the convert on demand in a temp dir and do the email without touching the db, but that is an ugly and slow hack. It is on my TODO list to enable write support for the content server, until that time I am not going to implement this feature. |

why not just convert & send all the relevant books, one time only ,- to Amazon as mobi/personal documents. then they are accessible 24/7 from your cloud/amazon servers, any where that your kindle can get a connection.
seems daft to want someone else to re-invent that wheel ? AFAIK there are no storage limitations, and no requirement to have bought the books from amazon. |
