Harry Bosch Has a Phone Number

So, I'm reading The Overlook, and I run across this line, spoken by the protagonist, Harry Bosch:

Quote:
“It’s an emergency, Alvin. I need to get him out of there. It will take you less than five minutes. Here, write this down. My number is 323-244-5631. You got it?”
And I call the number, and lo and behold, he has voicemail.

Anyhow, I have been reading all of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch novels in order, and I highly recommend them! Phoenix Public Library has almost all of them available through Overdrive.

I used to read ditective bosch until the prices of his novels went way up to $10 now I don't read him until the prices come down. This is my little ax that I have to grind with the book publishing industry, at the moment my target price for books are $0 since I have gotten my latest book set for that price but its typically at $6 which

@Jbcohen - I haven't bought any of them--I'm not exactly a fan of the $10-12 prices either. I've managed to get all of them for free through the library. Phoenix has every one available through Overdrive.

OMG they've doubled in price last month I was getting the early ones from Kobo for $7.99 less the kobo discount coupon so averaging $5.50 a book, now they are all $14.39 !!!
Dammit I knew I should have purchased more in the series but I was trying to clear my TBR pile before buying anymore, now I won't be able to afford them
Nearly Double the price!!!

PS I love Harry, that he has a real number is mega cool

I hear you djulian, however the slogan of my local library should be - What ever you want we don't have it, what every you don't want we have. They never have anything in electronic books, they are useless to me.

Connelly is great and Bosch is his best character for me. I wasn't thrilled with "9 Dragons" but maybe because it wasn't a 'Los Angeles police procedural' and Bosch doesn't work playing Schwarzenegger's Col. Matrix ("Commando" movie reference).

Oh my. I just checked out Kobo and here in Canada they are still in the 7.99 to 9.99 price range and we have never been able to use a Kobo discount on them. That is a real jump for you in the price.

I just started 9 Dragons and I think I feel the same way. Very much looking forward to The Drop.

Sometimes authors do seem to totally "lose the plot". The classic example for me was Patricia Cornwell's "Kay Scarpetta" series which started out as excellent police procedurals, had a brief tryst with a "James Bond" style, and then just completely lost it for me.

I have found The Black Echo (1st in the Harry Bosch series) on sale at Kobo for $0.99 if you haven't yet gotten into the series.

Sorry if I'm off topic first post on the forum

Nice! I'm gonna have to start these again. I've read Black Echo years ago, but will have to re-read it.

I just wanted to comment on the OP -- what an interesting & cool idea to have a phone number for a key character that actually works! But the real question is: if a fan left a message with their phone number, would "Harry" call them back?

Unique way to connect with fans...

Don't hold your breath.

I'll bet he gets hundreds - maybe thousands - of messages like that every week. And that he doesn't even monitor the voice mail.
