kindle reader recomendations?
I got my wife the Fire for Christmas and we both are enjoying it!
I would like to get a reader for me, just for reading... Any recomendations? The kindle with ads? 79$ Can I side load the books I have aquired? (like the Fire) Are the ads annoying? |

If you bought the books thorugh Amazon you can simple send them to the Kindle over wifi. Other books you can side load to the unit. Calibre works great for this! The ads are only on the screen saver and at the bottom of the screen when looking through the books you have loaded on the device. The ads are not present while you are actually reading, so no they are not annoying

The ads don't get in the way at all. I often forget I have the "special offers" one because I close the cover when I put it to sleep and have pretty much ignored the small bar at the bottom of the menu screens.

For the most part the ads don't bother me, but I do get tired of opening my Kindle to see that Huggie's baby butt staring me in the face.

![]() ![]() ![]() I notice on the $79 K4 I own the back is staining. It has black streaks on it. I never take it out of the case so I can only gather the marware case is too blame or the back is cheaply made... I wonder if the KT has a similar back? ![]() |

The Fire is my first Kindle (although I've had the Kindle app on my smartphones since 2009). While we're on the subject - I'd like to get an e-ink Kindle for outdoor reading this summer (I like to tan, and forget about the Fire in direct sun).
Is the $79 version adequate? Is the $99 Touch that much more convenient? |

I say go Touch or go Keyboard. Definitely Touch because it's cheaper and easier to use. You won't enjoy using just one button after using the Kindle Fire, that's for sure. I'm not too sure about the onscreen keys though. I like tactile ones better myself.

Another vote for the Kindle Touch (no ads for me).

Thanks for the responses. For the $20 difference from the base model, sounds like the Touch is worth it.

heya ive been lurking occasionally on here, in a bit of a calibre phase
dunno how to jump into any discussion but i will say that the kindle fire is my first kindle as well, and it was a christmas gift. i do know amazon kindle and nook are the best-selling ereaders, however when it comes to hardware reviews ive always trusted CNET -- http://reviews.cnet.com/ebook-readers/?tag=bc . good luck |

Welcome to MobileRead, euterpe. The Fire is a nice tablet. I bought my grandson one and may yet buy one for myself, but for reading books I prefer my plain old lightweight eInk Kindle readers.
CNET's a pretty good source, though. |
