Caibre - Fails to sort by Author, Title, etc

Symptom 1
My Calibre fails to sort books by clicking on the fields Authors, or Title, or Tags. Simply either no response when I try. Or it will scroll down one book at a time as I click on Tags each time !

Symptom 2
It also will not let the elevator be dragged down to scroll down the book list, only my thumb wheel can used to move down the list.

This is using current latest version, but if I uninstall and re-install Calibre it behaves and all works ok but not for long, it falls over again quickly. Running on Windows 7 and ver 0.8.43, pc exhibits no other problems anywhere.

If anyone has any clues, I would be immensly grateful.

Dont use a wacom tablet/mouse.
