Exclamation epubs

Hello out there,

I bought a nook (waste of money), and I don't think I'll be happier with a kindle. I'm on the hunt for the e-reader that can read e-pubs like the one I attached (hopefully??). I can give links of samples if that doesn't work. It's in Arabic and in calibre on my pc, it reads fine. On my nook, it's just a bunch of boxes. I want preferably an e-reader that does e-ink, not the colored ones.

Anyone out there able/willing to help? Pretty pretty please? =)

Can you load and use your own fonts on the Nook?
And have you already browsed this subforum? When I remember right you're not the first asking because of books in Arab.
In theory it is possible with the Pocketbook readers. They have a special Arab firmware and they allow for using custom fonts. But there are some problems with it, too. Maybe you can browse the Pocketbook subforum, too.

Edit: Has the attachment some resemblences with how it should look like? It is a screenshot from my Pocketbook.

Here are the step by step instructions

Adding Arabic support usually involves patching both Framework.jar and libwebcore.so files.

I found that patching libwebcore.so file causes crashes with the default browser, Gmail and Google reader. I've tried to patch the libwebcore.so manually and automatically using the method mentioned in this website : http://blog.devasque.com/?page_id=11
But it does not work. Also, Default android browser is buggy at best, so using Opera Mini which supports Arabic won't be a problem.

1-First you need to have your device rooted with any of the methods here in XDA. Also make sure you have the 1.1 version as I didn't try to add Arabic to 1.0 version.

2-Make a backup of your whole system using the method found here just in case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1142983
You can also try CWM backup, but I didn't try it.

3-Download this file:
https://rapidshare.com/files/2199861...rt_for_NST.rar
Extract it, and Using Root Explorer copy the file framework.jar for /system/framework/, and copy the libandroid_runtime.so and libicuuc-arabic.so to /system/lib/
System might restart during copying files, try again after system has restarted.
Or
You can try the CWM flashable zip file:
https://rapidshare.com/files/1924264..._framework.zip
copy the zip file to sd, boot in CWM, flash file from sd.
Didn't try the CWM flashable file, but I don't find any reason why it won't work.

3- Add the Arabic font, I use the DejaVuSans. Can be found here : https://rapidshare.com/files/2414620...nsFallback.rar
Using Root Explorer copy the file to /system/fonts/ overwriting the exiting file. Reboot.
If you don't like the font, use any other Arabic Enabled DroidSansFallback.
All credits go to madmack.

Ok, I'm reading through this but I feel like I'm missing some directions. I downloaded the files in steps 2 and 3. But let's go back to step one, it says "make a back up of your factory fresh ROM", but I'm a little lost on how or more importantly why. Here's my question. I hardly use it, nothing really on there b/c it won't do what I want to. Is it not possible to just do a factory restore like I saw on the thread if it doesn't work out?

This link for the nook is dead:

Boot nook with noogie.img : http://nookdevs.com/NookTouch_Rooting (the "Rooted Forever" screen) and connect to your computer via USB.

Use DiskImager to copy your Nook partition to a file, being sure to select "Physical Disk" in the drop down list.

So, I went to install the partition software, and it gave me a warning not to do so on my laptop, that I could lose the data. Any recommendations?

Ok, I hope I have requirement 5: You must have enough intelligence to follow instructions. =)

1. Download TouchNooter from here: touchnooter-2-1-31.zip - Uploaded

Done.

2. Windows: Unzip and use WinImage to "Restore Virtual Hard Disk Image" to your SDcard.

Sorry, I have an SDcard. I navigated all through it, right clicked. What are they talking about? How do I use a WinImage? I can follow directios, I think at least, but I'm missing some of the vernacular to make this work. =)

Hi Hedaya,

First of all, I want to encourage you to continue with this process of rooting your Nook device to make it read Arabic properly. I know it should work.

In case you decide to look for an alternative solution, here is a link to a thread I opened in the past dealing with reading Hebrew ePubs:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=105910

As you can imagine, Hebrew and Arabic got the same issues and support problems...

Good luck!

Hi there,

A separate SD card reader? Like another device complete..... I was using my laptop for this. Will that not work? So I right click the image and copy, then I select the SD card and .....open it up in file explorer and hit paste? Like that?
