Frustrated New KT User

I just picked up my first eReader a few days ago, i spent a lot of time researching and for me it came down to the Kobo Touch and the Nook Simple Touch. It was a very close tie to be honest with you. One issue that I was really hung up on was i like the manual page turn buttons on the Nook, but in the end I decided I could live with the touch only page turn option. And wouldn't you know it, on top of having to sacrifice the page turn button, the touch page turn on the Kobo doesn't even work properly! I thought it was just me until i came here and see that it's a big problem for everyone. I'm all ready to purchase some ebooks on my ereader, but now i'm not sure if i can handle keeping the kobo or not.

Is this a problem that only just came about with the new firmware update, or has it always been a problem?

Is this problem likely to be fixed?

It's not too late to return it, but honestly, i want to keep it, if i thought this page turn thing will be fixed.

It's a huge problem for some users (read the comments):
http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...-touch-screen/

I don't think it's ever going to get fixed. The best you can hope for is that the next device won't have this same problem.

What exactly is your page turn problem? Do you mean it turns two pages sometimes, or doesn't react?

The current beta does have some kind of improved tapping.

Well, from what I've read in the link provided, and other posts on the forum here, it seems this has been a problem for awhile. Given that, I have my doubts it will suddenly be fixed after all this time. I'll be returning it tomorrow. It sucks because I really wanted to support a Canadian company. Also being Canadian I can't easily get the Nook. I didn't want to have to convert epub to mobi for the Kindle, but I just ordered the Kindle Touch. Sorry Kobo lovers, i really wanted to make it work, but I'm too particular about my electronics to deal with that.

Oh, the problem was page turns not responding and sometimes then flipping 4 or 5 pages after not responding. Some people saying this problem get worse the longer you have it, and since i'm within my 14 days still, it's gone.

You might notice an improvement if you turn the power off and on, or if you press the reset button located on the back. This will clear out any cruft from the process running on the CPU and allow the device to respond more quickly to taps.

P.S I don't know when the update will come out (Beta testers don't have any inside info on this, we know a day ahead tops before everyone else). Hopefully soon though.

What forums have you been on for the past six months? This has been a persistent problem, despite reassurances that it has been fixed or will be fixed in the next update. . .

However, I've actually had better success with 1.9.16 than past FWs. Now I really only see this problem when I quickly flip back a page to catch something I missed and then flip forward again.

But, as with all things Kobo, YMMV.

At the begining I had problems with turning pages too.
I tried to turn pages by scrolling right to left rather than tap.
The problem virtually gone...

I just tried the Sony in store, and I have to say that the page turns on the Kobo are more responsive, I think it might have something to do with not being able to tap. Does swiping always work?

Hi guys, just wanted to update. The kobo has been returned for a refund, I found out that "The Source" here in Canada sells Kindle Touch in their stores. So I canceled my amazon order and picked up the Kindle Touch.

I have to say the overall experience feels much more refined. The menus respond faster too. Calibre converted an ePub to mobi without and issue and the page turns work. I'm one very happy camper now.

Thanks again all.

Very smart decision. I've been waiting over 2 months for Kobo to release some firmware to fix a bunch of problems. I've given up on Kobo. No future Kobo hardware purchases from me.

Maybe you just got a bad Kobo, I know two other people who haven't had any other trouble with touch screen responsiveness. And I've had two touches (one returned because of a faulty USB port) and they both worked fine.

I dunno Terminator. I know you're a beta tester for kobo and it makes your attempts to put a positive spin on this thread seem awfully transparent, and not very believable. Sorry.
