Excellent collection of Hawthorne's short stories..
Check out the oft-anthologized "Young Goodman Brown", "Feathertop", "P.’s Correspondence" (which is one of the first alternate history tales), "Earth's Holocaust," "Rappaccini's Daughter," and just about any of the others.

Just an FYI:
There is a newer version of this book (Dec 2014) on MR but it does NOT have all of the stories published in the 1846 first edition. This version does.
This older (2007) MR book also includes the 3 stories added to the 1854 second edition.

(I figured this out when looking for the story, "Rappaccini's Daughter" as part of a reading interest of mine related to the Harvard Classics, Shelf of Fiction collection.)
