Bug in Rename Library
I'm running the latest Calibre on Mac.
I have two libraries - a very large one (~6500 books) on a NAS drive, and a smaller one (~175 books plus news) on the hard drive. I regularly switch between them; it can take several minutes to switch to the large one. When you click on the Library icon, your choices are:
But this is counter-intuitive. The first, quick-switch, showing otherlib makes sense, but the other two also impact the other library. You are renaming the library you are not displaying the books of. And the only feedback I notice for the current library is in the title bar. I suggest that Rename and Remove apply to the current library, not some other library. |

Removing the current library though does not make much sense. What is Calibre meant to do when you have completed that? Show the dialog to create a new library????
It makes FAR more sense to remove and rename an inactive library rather than the active one. |

You can NOT remove a Library that is in use.
You can create 2 different Libraries with the same name. ![]() The differences being the Drive/PATH to them. Only the folder (name) that contains metadata.db is used for naming. |

That's actually not true, at least not in my case. I wouldn't risk removing a library without having opened it before. So first I would open the library to check what is in there and whether I really want to remove it or not, and then I would remove it.

In an open database there are a lot of data in use or even in cache. If you try to rename/delete a database while you are using it this is like to kick the ground under your feet’s. That’s why it works like it is today. It’s not a bug; it’s more like a safety feature.
After you had check the database you know exact what database you want to delete, so there isn´t any risk to switch to another database and then remove or rename the database you want to delete. It’s surely one more step but this way is far safer for Calibre and its users. |
