Sony PRS-T1 & Windows OS

I’m interested in buying a Sony PRS-T1, but the product specs state that you must have Windows XP SP3 or above to connect to the reader & use the software.

The problem is I only have Windows XP SP2 on my computer. I once tried upgrading to SP3, but it is apparently incompatible with some of my applications and it caused severe problems. I uninstalled & went back to SP2.

Has anybody here tried to use Windows XP Professional SP2 with this reader, and if yes did you have any problems or did it work out OK?

Should I forget about getting this reader if I can’t upgrade to SP3?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Most likely it's just for the Reader software, which you don't need to use.

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't intending to use the Sony Reader software anyway, so that's OK.

However, the Sony firmware download page says you need SP3 to install the firmware update and I'd like to be able to install this or any future updates.

Has anyone download & installed an update using SP2?

If yes, I guess I'm in the clear to use SP2 for this reader.

Cannot say for certain, but probably means the software hasn't been tested with SP2.

Worst case you could use another computer to do it. There is one software update that is probably not installed and another rumoured for the end of the month.

So you could probably try it out and return the reader if update doesn't work .

PS the reader for PC software can be downloaded and run without buying the reader so you could check that out now.

Really appreciate the replies & advice.

I'm pleased SP2 doesn't seem to be an issue as this Sony reader seems to be the best choice for me.

It is probably because SP2 and earlier are not longer supported by MicroSoft.
