I'm losing faith, and doubt we'll see it before the summer.
Another brilliant "let's promise but don't deliver" kind of thing to keep the complainers quiet... |

Personally, I don't think we'll see it until the holiday season.

Harry Potter ebooks were supposed to finally go for sale ... soon. The initial idea was that they would be available for sale when the new Sony readers were coming. Then only the first book was going to be for sale initially, then it was moved to Q1 2012, then people got distracted with Xmas so there was no news.

I just figure it'll come when it does. There's lots of other books to be read in the mean time.

I checkd the pottermore blog, and news posting there are far and few between. You'd think they'd a least be upfront about the delay.

The books were suppose to go on sale last November but did not because the Pottermore site could not handle the traffic it had from the Beta testers, never mind opening it to the public. At the time, Pottermore said that the site would open to the public sometime in the first half of 2012. They did not give a specific date. The assumption was that when Pottermore went public, so would the store that sells the e-books.
Since then, there was a poll asking people about how they read the series and a bunch of questions regarding the e-book. The poll was open to the public and is now closed. They have not released the results from the poll. There was concern on this site and others that the poll might be an indication that JKR is not going to release the e-books when Pottermore opened. She has been reluctant to release the e-books (even though she has and uses a Kindle) for some reason (piracy is the biggest). Moving from statements that the e-books were coming and a deal with Sony to release a special edition Harry Potter e-reader to suddenly asking about if there was a need for the e-books was jarring. So we have no idea when Pottermore will open to the public or if the e-books will be sold at that time. |

I can't see the issue being "piracy", since that ship has long since sailed.

There was also the fact that she had said that all the books should be displayed in the same way prompting the discussion about what the format of choice would be.

We know it has sailed. She knows that it has sailed. Yet, that tends to be the reason cited. She wants to sell the books from her own store with a watermark DRM that includes the name of the purchaser so that any copy that ends up on the darknet can be traced back to the person who bought it.
She will not sell it from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Sony or Kobo with current DRM because it is not secure enough. There have been the occassional attempts at "I want everyone to get good quality copies and don't trust that would happen through the book sellers" and something about the illustrations. Given that her Publisher submits the copy to be sold from the various bookstores, the quality issues is a bunch of BS. |
