Question Can't Read Books Transferred To Kindle Fire

When I try to transfer a book to my Kindle Fire from Calibre and go to open it, the message states it is not the correct format and that I must delete it?? These are books I purchased on Amazon and transferred to my Kindle for Mac, which I then transferred to Calibre. Why can't I transfer the books to my Kindle Fire? I know I can do it through Amazon-Manage My Kindle, but the purpose of having Calibre (for me) is to have a backup of all my Amazon books in case something should happen to them on Amazon and I can retrieve them and read them on my Kindle.

Help!!

Most Kindle ebooks have DRM (encryption) which ties each file to a single device or app (e.g. a particular instance of K4MAC).

Calibre can manage ebook files with DRM, but, as you have found, copies of your DRMed K4MAC ebook won't work on your Fire.

If you want to use Calibre as a central repository for your ebooks, then use the 3rd party plugins for Calibre than strip DRM. These work on import to Calibre, so you would have to re-import your K4MAC ebooks for this to work. See Apprentice Alf's Blog for more on DRM issues.

As Wallcraft says each download of a DRM'd Kindle book is encoded to a specific app or device (so for example your backups will only work with that specific install of K4 Mac) so to be able to transfer them to multiple devices you'd have to remove the DRM. Otherwise you'll need to download them directly to the Fire from your archives.
