Anyone else use a journal as a cover? Markings by C. R. Gibson to be specific
I just realized I should have stated "other than Oberon in the thread title." Those Oberon journals are lovely, it a bit pricier.
So my 350 is the only reader I've ever owned that had an actual ereader sleeve(because it came free with the reader). I guess I'm too cheap to buy and too lazy to make from scratch. My first one was from some random old pink plastic journal, but then I found a Markings by C. R. Gibson journal from Walgreens that was black with a nice flowery relief on the front and a nice pricetag of $8.49 and it fit the Nook Color and the Sony 950 perfectly, Yay! So I carried my T1 to work yesterday without a case and spent the whole time worrying that it would get injured in my purse (darn it). I had no idea that Staples had such a large journal section. They have A LOT and they seem to come in various sizes and all cost less than $9.99. I ended up picking up a nice aqua colored journal with the word “Dream” written on it and a blue elastic band to keep it closed. It holds the reader pretty securely right now, but then, I haven’t removed the journal pages yet. That project it waiting for tonight. In the meantime, the journal is pictured below. I’ll have to take pics of the black journal too. So, here’s my main question. Does anyone else use the Markings by C.R. Gibson journals to protect their e-reader? Anabolina: that looks great!
Over the weekend I used a journal that I had purchased for less than $6 from Office Depot to create a cover for my 350. I want to make more now to match my eclectic reading tastes! The artwork is by Patricia Ariel. I ripped out w/the help of an Xacto knife the journal pages. I have had the journals to play around with for awhile but was debating whether to put a cloth insert w/corner tabs or to try Velcro. Initially, I didn't want to do the Velcro. I purchased a pack of Martha Stewart Essentials paper pad, that is marketed for scrapbooking to use for the new insert. The paper designs look much like the old fashioned boards of nicely bound hardcover books. I used a spray adhesive glue called Tack 2000 to attach the paper. I definitely want to use a different glue next project. The odor of the Tack(y) spray stuff is overpowering and hard to be precise with. Had to spray it outside, my preference would be for a liquid non-toxic/acid free option for the next experiment. I didn't get the insert as even as I would like. Next time around I'll be more careful and precise. The journal cover folds over at the front, overlapping and includes a hidden magnet clasp I can also fold the cover inside out? to use as a slanted upright stand for the reader. ![]() My New personalized Ereader cover for the 350. Front is an overlapping design with built in magnetic clasp. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by beespeckled; 02-08-2012 at 04:13 AM. Reason: rephrasing |

That's lovely, beespeckled. If you check the Sony cover and case thread, you can see the covers I made from Dollar Tree journals and Walmart quilting fabric, for less than $3/cover.
I also made Kindle covers for a friend from Dollar Tree hardcovers, although I had to cut down the covers somewhat to fit the Kindle. |

khalleron (Kate) Thank you. Are your examples in the thread for T1 cases? You are probably the reason I wanted to try a journal as a cover lol. IIRC yours look pretty darn spiffy! I will check that thread out again.
I did help my daughter make a fabric case for her T1 using a McCall's pattern (the pattern was on sale for .99) but I wasn't quite satisfied with how that one turned out. The cardboard we used is not quite stiff enough and bends, making me nervous about protecting her reader. One thing about re-purposing a journal is that you can still create a fabric book cover for sprucing up or changing a look too! Update: Kate, your covers are the ones that I saw that inspired me to try this! Thanks for posting your photos. Karma coming your way! Last edited by beespeckled; 02-08-2012 at 09:49 PM. I found that three layers of medium weight chipboard (found in scrapbooking supplies) glued together was rigid enough to protect the reader.

I agree about the McCall s pattern. I tried to make a cover using it and it just didn't look right.
