Angry Battery is drained fast after latest update: 1.0.04.12210

Hello,

I have updated to the latest firmware (1.0.04.12210).
Now, battery is drained very fast. In two days (after full charge) with about 2 hours everyday, the battery was empty.

Did anybody notice anything similar?

Is there any solution to this?

Thanks in advance
Genady

Haven't noticed any change. BTW remember to Power -off when not using reader especially overnight - sleep mode still leaves stuff running

Cool No, no ....

Current best practice is not to power off for short periods, like overnight , only for periods of over a week or so. Although I've found, after a good charging routine "educates" the battery, it still has a reasonable charge after more than this.

"Sleep" is exactly what the mode is for - so you don't have to keep powering off !
And the only thing that "keeps running" is the Sleep mode.
Powering on and off soon wrecks/ages the battery.

And don't charge until at least 2 bars to go, one is better, and use a wall charger. And don't worry too much about stopping it at the crack of dawn - you can't overcharge these batteries.
This way you do actually improve the holding capacity and performance.
On the other hand, it is possible for a computer to throw a wobbly and actually discharge A battery, and then it's Goodnight Irene.....

yeah i've noticed my battery has been acting weird as well after the update. i upgraded to 1.0.04.12210 on sunday, now 2 days later, the battery is down to 55%. i estimate the total use time was maybe 3 hrs max. my device is rooted and was working fine before the update.

what's even more puzzling is that while the battery status is showing the % drain (setting>about phone>status), the battery icon on the status bar for some reason is not updating, and it's stuck at full 4 bars..

edit: sorry forgot to mention when i flashed the firmware, the battery level was at around 20%. so perhaps that's the culprit and some recalibration is in order..

I was not suggesting powering off for short periods only like overnight etc... I have extended my batt considerably doing this, btw. You are also running the OS and whatever you were doing when you put it into "sleep mode", that has been my experience, recycling the power has also helped in fixing sluggish screen response etc.

I haven't seen my battery indicator move down at all since I've bought it (about 6 weeks ago) I think it's probably because I keep connecting it to the computer to sync things. I'm going to make a conscious effort to not sync anything else until I've drained it at least once.

I'm used to firmware updates on a few other Sony devices so I knew beforehand if you don't have a full battery it can bring serious problems.

It was full. Thanks for reference, I saw it, but it's a pity if I'll have to root only because of this issue.

I have never powered it off before, but always left it in the sleep mode.
It haven't discharged that fast.
If there is no solution and the book will continue to discharge so, I'll probably have no choice but to root it and recalibrate.

I read that a dirty screen and or cover can affect battery life even when in sleep mode. I think this may be true. If I have a crumb on my reader it will not stay asleep sometimes.

I have also read that the totally discharging it and recharging it repeatedly will eventually resync the battery. (2 or 3 times?)

Still it should be under warentee and that might be the way to go.

Convincing advice has been that it is best to just let the T1 shut itself off thereby saving wear and tear on the switch while at the same time maximizing battery life.

With wireless turned off, leaving a single page turned on until automatic shut off doesn't drain the battery.

My Prs-T1 has actually turned back on again or not entered sleep mode (due to the cover touching it I think). My PRS-350 definitely drains while in sleep mode. It is my reader for on the bus and it will not be used for days, at some point it will turn itself off completely, and on opening the book, I have noted it is down by one bar.

The eink screen does not drain the power, and the 350 has no wireless, so I assume (perhaps wrongly) that it is still strobing for screen input if when it does not act on it.

My PRS 600 will drain completely in four days if in sleep mode, but I have an SD card in that one which doesn't help. Shutting it down it does not seem to drain.

I just got my T1 on Sunday, updated the same day i got it, and this issue happened to me. I turned off wifi after a full charge, read a few hours a day, did not touch it at all yesterday, so it shut down by itself (I didnt look at how charged it was, though). Turned it on today - wouldnt turn on and found out battery was completely drained. : S I'm hoping this is normal behavior or I'm going to exchange it this weekend..

I don't know how normal it is, but since it is new I would exchange it anyway just to be safe.

I got mine as a Christmas gift and I have had to recharge it 4 times. Plus the charging that would happen when sideloading books.

I was expecting better. I used my mother's kindle 3 for 3 weeks just so I would know how it worked before I gave it to her. (she lives on the opposite coast) and in 3 weeks of using it for at least 2 hours a day I did not have to recharge it.

The battery life is better than the 600 but not better than the 350 and I have no SD card in it and wireless off.

Oh well I much prefer Sony to kindle so I can live with the small problems. And I have a wall charger and 3 ebook readers so it is not that big a deal for me.

In your position, I would exchange it, making sure the exchanged one is in a sealed box. Most stores just reshelve returned items.

I can only say I have a 350, 650, and T1, and using the "never power off" etc.. regime, has noticeably improved the performance of the battery on all....
I can't be the only one with a decent battery from the start ....on 3 devices.....

[ I seem to remember similar advice/tips/instructions on my mobiles, too - can't check, lorst the books ! ]
