360 Plus Pearl on 360 Plus ever going to happen?

As a former owner of a Pocketbook 360 who got a bad apple (broken on/off switch), I was intrigued by the new 360 plus-dark blue- that I saw lurking on the net recently. So any rumors of a 360 plus with pearl in the coming year? Tempted to buy it again if they can get the pearl screen.....

It's a good question, it's just that no one here knows the answer. I'm not sure if anyone can even tell you why they didn't go for Pearl screens in their most recent devices. They're probably cheaping out, but who knows exactly where the savings are (screens, hardware redesign, bargain prices on current parts for non-pearl devices,...).

cheers.... and I found the "we don't know why PB won't go to Pearl" thread.... it's too bad cause I would buy a 360 Plus if it had pearl now...even though I got a lemon from them before...

The question is wheter 5" Pearl screens are being *mass*produced right now, so they are cheap enough. There was the Sony 350 with a 5" pearl screen, but now it is discontinued. There seems to be no interest in 5" ereaders anymore... :/

Well, part of the problem is that the price war has dragged 6in prices (and device sizes) into 5in territory. Both the basic Kindle4 and the Sony T1 (to name just two) are as pocketable as the PB360. And both are cheaper in most locales.

Not sure about Sony volumes but the Kindles and Nooks sell by the millions so their development costs get spread over a lot more devices--ditto for support and other overhead. And those devices can survive on razor thin margins because their primary role is to sell ebooks from their respective bookstores. None of that applies to the Pocketbooks.
It's not a friendly environment out there for low-volume hardware-only vendors.

All that said: Pearl screens are nice but they're not *that* much better. Their main virtue is really the greater grayscale depth, which allows for better anti-aliasing.
I don't find it all that much better when I switch from my T1 to my old-style PB360. But then, I use Coolreader3 on both and Coolreader right now has excellent antialiasing everywhere.

agreed about the screen difference. I have a 350 and an Opus and the 350 is better but for my purposes of reading plain text the difference is not that great. The functionality of the 360 is the thing I love/ as well as the form factor.... Plus it might be time for the last of the 5inch readers.... so may have to concede and buy it while I can....

I don't think they will be manufactured with Pearl any time soon... if they will, they will be probably called differently.
