games for vox

Since the vox is primarily an ereader, I don't get the sense that a lot of folks here are interested in games. But I bet there are at least a few lurkers here who might be.

The best game I've found so far is Apparatus. It is android only which makes it all the cooler. It is a physics based puzzle game. I'm not sure but I think it might only be for sale through the Market:

https://market.android.com/details?i...pparatus&hl=en

You can get a great deal right now on some other cool games via the Humble Bundle for Android. No market access for this required. This is a sale lasting 11 more days. There are three games: EDGE, Osmos and Anomaly. It's name your price with whatever percentage you designate going to charity. So you can get the 3 games for a penny. However, if you match the average price paid (currently $6.05) you also get World of Goo which is a great game. Additionally, you get the pc/mac/linux versions of the games too if you want. I've tried all four of the games in the bundle on the vox and they all play fine. Here is the cnet article where I found out about the bundle:

If you are inclined to mess about with gemrb its possible to get Baldurs Gate running on the Vox. THe only downside is that the UI and game aren't designed with the imprecision of touch in mind.

How do you find the response time playing games on the Vox?
I find that with its slow processor it takes forever to do simple things like open Gmail or web pages in the browser.

I hate to think how long it would take to actually Do anything!
I think I'll only ask it to do simple things - like turn pages.

I have none of those problems.. It plays games wonderfully, no slowdowns at all. I don't find the processor at all too slow for myself cause it handles everything wonderfully.

I have a few further comments on performance after spending some more time with the games mentioned above:

Apparatus: the touchscreen can be a little unresponsive but since timing is not really a factor in this game, it's more of an annoyance than anything else.

EDGE: No problems at all.

Osmos: Does not run well on vox. I grabbed the mac version and it is much more satisfying. Great game.

Anomaly: Game plays fine on the vox. However, the game itself is too difficult and I have given up.

World of Goo: Plays fine on the vox. I have some issues due to being left handed but you can't have everything.

Games

I mainly play solitare(250+ solitare collection), sodoku (Super Sodoku http://www.appbrain.com/app/super-su...tmobile.sudoku) , and chess (Chess Free http://www.appbrain.com/app/chess-fr...tory.chessfree) for games on it, though angry birds does work, I just don't want to repeat all the levels I've already beaten on my phone

There's also Zenonia 2. Reasonable amount of depth to this JRPG.

Guess I'm getting old at the ripe old age of 38. I remember when a 1 MHz processor was the best most people could afford (Commodore 64) and they were happy with the results.

800 MHz (Kobo Vox) in a small, inexpensive portable device is slow? I know it's not state of the art, and that time and technology marches on, but it ought to be good enough for simple games, shouldn't it? Heck, that's a faster clock speed than the original Xbox (it was 733 MHz), and the Vox has 8x more RAM too. I know it's hard to compare a tablet against a game console, and the GPUs are quite different, but the Vox is far from a dog of a system, even if there are more powerful options on the market.

I play all kinds of games on the Vox and it does very well. I play the usual apps you can find for android as well as the old school Zelda, Final Fantasy, Mario, Secret of Mana etc. I also played Myst

Yes I used Scummvm. They have a list of files you load from your copy of Myst and It plays very well. I had to get use to the tap for movement and picking things up. It saves your progress as well and you can select different save files in case you want to go back. I read that some people had problems with it but I never had a problem at all. I just followed the instructions on the site.

I have Robo Socket, Labyrinth, Brain Game, Chalk Ball, Unblock Me, Jewels Deluxe, Defense of Galaxy.
No lag issues but some drain the battery. Probably only get 3 hours out of the most graphic intense games.
