stop downloading non-kindle library books to read on your kindle. download only for-kindle library books to read on your kindle. if you want to read non-kindle library ebooks on a portable reader get a non-kindle portable reader

![]() Download Calibre, it's free. And convert them to Kindle Format. They will not convert if they are DRM'ed but, read Apprentice Alf's Blog for more information on DRM. Kindle supports a format known as mobi (the AZW extension shows you that it has DRM [think; copy] protection), the Adobe Digital SE tells you that the format is epub (almost all other e-book readers) with DRM. If you are new to all this a good start is to read the Wikis here, pay special attention to formats.

You can still read the book on your computer if you want to. Not your first choice I am sure, but not a bad choice if you wish to read the book and it is not available for the kindle.

How on earth could I be accused of piracy? I have occasionally removed DRM from a library book and converted it, but again have never given, loaned, or sold the library ebook and have always returned it. To accuse me of piracy for modifying the ebook is offensive nonsense. |

To expand upon that: Adobe Digital Editions will allow you to read it on your PC. You can also read these files on most tablets and many smartphones.

Since the OP lives in the US according to their Location field here, s/he should be able to download most library eBooks from Amazon. However, if the particular Library book is not available for Amazon download, it can be converted. Doing so requires stripping the DRM from the book (google Apprentice Alf), and then converting the format (www.calibre-ebook.com). This is something international library users have always had to do if they want to use their library with their Kindle. As long as you treat the book as you should (no copying, no uploading, etc.), I see no moral issue here.

Ok, Adobe DRM will not work on a Kindle. Kindle DRM will not work on anything that is not a Kindle. Blame Amazon. They specifically restrict anyone from using the Mobi DRM scheme and support another form of DRM (which is what they use for the Kindle), and will not use anyone else's DRM as well. So, since you went with a Kindle, you MUST choose to download for Kindle. The file that you downloaded from the library, is just a key to let Adobe Digital Editions to authorize and download an ebook for people who use the ePub format. The only way to get non-Kindle DRM'ed ebook to work on your Kindle is to strip the DRM, and then convert it to the Kindle format. However, depending on where you live, that may not be legal. We are also not allowed to discuss how to do that on the Mobileread forums as well. If your library supports Overdrive, they should have Kindle ebooks as an option on some of the books. These are the only ones you can use. |

The OPs question isnt about buying. It's about borrowing from a library. He's trying to use a Library book that isnt created to work on a Kindle device. Stripping the DRM from a Library book allows the person to keep a copy of the book when they "return" it just as if they sat at a copier and made a whole copy from a paper library edition one page at a time. That is not permitted by copyright law.
