Connection problem with Kobo Touch
Hi
I have never been able to connect my Kobo touch with any version of Calibre, getting an error: ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device [Errno 22] Invalid argument Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 81, in run File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 332, in _books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 336, in books File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 816, in sync_booklists File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 386, in sync_booklists File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 385, in write_prefix File "site-packages\calibre\ebooks\metadata\book\json_codec.p y", line 119, in encode_to_file IOError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument I am running the current version, and have disabled the metadata reade rplugin, and unticked "read metadata" on the Kobo plugin. Tried deleting the two Calibre files, and have culled any books over 6Mb from the library (about 800 books). Also ran the Calibre "check library function" Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I should try? |

That's an IOError, indicating an inability to write to the Kobo's memory. Generally speaking, try reformatting/hard resetting your Kobo.

Thanks for the super quick response!

Grrr. Calibre successfully connected and uploaded my library.
Kobo hung on processing the data, so after deleting a book on the Kobo I tried to reconnect to Calibre and get exactly the same error! |

Kobos are notoriously unstable. I suggest you only upload a few books at a time, the ones you intend to read in the near future to your device.

thanks again
![]() so even though Calibre successfully uploaded them, the Kobo is causing a problem for Calibre by its inability to process them all? I wonder if it's the Kobo setup that is doing this. It has twice asked me to go through it since the hard reset, and I have to keep adding my shortlist again. VERY annoying, I might ignore the setup in future.
