TXT to EPUB conversion hangs, no debug output generated

I am stuck trying to convert a TXT file to EPUB using Calibre 0.8.36 on Mac OS X 10.7.2. The job hangs at the beginning of the conversion process (0% progress). I selected a debug output folder, but Calibre creates no debug information at all, except the initial README.txt.

Do you have any suggestions on how to better analyze the problem? Thank you.

Create a ticket in the bug tracker on Kovid's site, and attach the text file that's causing the problem to it, so that Kovid can investigate. Please don't post it here.
