Thinking about buying an ereader.
I used to have a Sony PRS-300 I think and then I got an Ipod and have been using ibooks. I mostly download my books online and they are usually pdfs or ebup. Im not really looking to pay alot extra for books. So Which is better. Kindle or Nook? I can use Calibre if needed.

I would suggest the Kindle Fire! I bought two of these for my step daughters for christmas and they absolutely love them. We all fight over the games when they come over. I want one for myself for reading and playing

If all you want is a ereader, IMHO go with the nook. Now the nook can not deal will great with PDF.
Kindle will let you read mobi, but unless loading the books has changed it can be a bit hard to get books on it. With Nook, You can sideload really easy. Simply hook up the nook to your computer and do a drag and drop. Simple. With any Color type reader, You gonna burn through battery life pretty quick. Now with the nook touch. I am able to read 5 novels before a recharge. Give or take. Kindle is a nice reader, but again. getting books from your computer to it can be tricky. I am sure a Kindle user can help you better if you decide that route. Just be carefull the cheaper Kindle does have advertisement. Hit you tube and look at both the nook and Kindle. See what works best for you. |

You get books onto the Kindle in exactly the same way. Just connect the USB cable, and drag and drop your books into the "documents" folder of the Kindle. Why do you say that getting books onto it "can be tricky", may I ask?

Can't really help with which is better for you, as I don't know anything about the Nook. Neither is great with PDF format (the Kindle Touch doesn't have landscape mode, although the Kindle Non Touch version does). However, if you prefer to use the epub format, then the Nook obviously, though if you are happy to use Calibre to convert, perhaps it's worth looking at how much the kind of books you like cost at the relevant stores to help you decide which would be better to buy? |

Have you looked at the Kobo Touch?
http://www.kobobooks.com/touch_features The one thing that needs work is Kobo's Customer support which is pretty bad. They will replace the reader but it may take a while. |

Had no idea you could drag and drop in kindle. Sorry about that. Had buddy with one. That is all he complained about. To funny. He knows computers. Just swore it could not be done.
Anyway. Like I said. Hit youtube. Take a look at both products. See what works best for you. |

If you have been buying your books from IBooks you are not going to be able to remove the DRM. At least, it is my understanding that the IBooks DRM has not been cracked yet. If this is true, you are not going to be able to read those books on anything other then an Apple product.
Does Apple have an app that allows people to read IBooks on Android? I am guessing no but I don't know that for a fact. |

i prefer amazon kindle just as a reader and it's perfect in that way [edit - moderator]. Amazon Kindle Touch is indispensable, 'cause it's convenient for reading, may be useful to access internet if i need it urgent. BUT! Kindle Fire is smth which I can't understand. It has worse features in everything except the price.

It's not sold primarily as a reader, but as a device for accessing Amazon's video services. I honestly wouldn't consider it if you're after a dedicated reading device.

You could drag and drop on the Kindle 1. That is how I added books in New Zealand.

![]() That should give you an idea if there is an iBooks app on Android or not. Not sure if that posture will change now that he's dead. |
