Hello from Nashville
Hello All,
I've been checking news and forum bulletins on the site for a while now, and finally decided to join in the fun. I'm going to be in the market for a reader very soon, so have been weighing all the pros and cons (between the Kindle and the Sony Reader) on devices here in an effort to help with my decision making. Thanks so far to all the people who post reviews and tips on their respective devices, they have been both interesting and informative. David |

Welcome to the Forum.
Be interested in which reader you opt for. At the moment, I'm leaning towards the Sony PRS-505. I've had my hands on one of those and like it a lot. Don't care for the looks of the Kindle but haven't seen one in the flesh. But I may hold off and see what the next generation looks like. Let us know what you decide. |

NatCh, from a fellow native Texan, I can only say "Howdy."
Hi cassidym. At the moment I'm also leaning towards the Sony. The only "killer feature" on the Kindle, as least for me, is the keyboard and an easy ability to search (mainly for things like reference books: cookbooks, computer books, Bible, etc.). However, the Sony is (a) cheaper, (b) has better format support, both current and promised, and (c) is made by a company who has less incentive to lock it down. There are some things about the Kindle "ecosystem" that bother me. Overall, though, I'm trying to keep in mind that this will be my first device, and not the final end-all be-all. I have a feeling lots of things will change in the next couple of years, for all companies involved, and it will only get better. David |
