Problems after V1.0.03.11140 update?

My T1 froze while reading and using the swipe method of turning pages. I had to use the reset for the first time. I am wondering if this problem exists with other Readers, or is it confined to the T1?. Are others still having problems after the firmware update?. It would be interesting to find out.

Nicko, I wouldn't be concerned about a one-time occurrence or occurrences with just one book. It may well be the file/book that has the problem.

I have a 650 that I've had for about 1 year 3 months. I've had to reset it once. I don't consider it a problem.

And yes, it happens with other brands of readers including Amazon, B&N, Kobo and others.

It appears that no one has had any real problems after the firmware update. It looks like it was a real success which is good news.

I'm having this random problem that when I press the next-page button, I get two page flips instead of one. Tried format, hard reset, different books from different sources, but none helped. This never happened before the last firmware update. I remember someone mentioning the same issue here after the latest update, too.

I've still got this problem with the hardware buttons, but its not that big an issue, I just click the back button, then forward and its ok on the next button push. Annoying yes, but bearable.

The reader is so much better since the fix, I really can live with the occasional double page flip. And to my mind I think its something that may well be resolved in future upgrades to the software.

  • Yep, same here and a whole bunch of other issues that only started after the new Firmware was installed:
  • After the reader has been in use for a while (a few hours of continuous reading) the touch screen becomes unresponsive.
  • Sometimes it skips a page or two, both when using the touch screen or the buttons.
  • The Reader Software crashes (once so far)
After a restart it continues from the second last reading session, not from where it crashed.
  • The Reader goes into an endless loop (twice so far, once with the latest firmware)
  • The Reader becomes unresponsive and needs to be reset using the reset switch (twice so far)
  • The Reader is unresponsive in some lights, such as in the shopping centre's coffee shop I cannot use the touch screen at all. Using it in halogen light in my living room it is unreliable; I need to swipe 4-5 times to get to the next page.
  • The word lookup does not give a description of some words. It just says Noun or something like that. I then have to go into the dictionary and find the verb before I get any description of the word.

I have had the endless loop issue twice. Once in November with the old firmware and once last week with the new firmware.

The word lookup has more to do with the formatting of the definition of the word in the dictionary, and I don't consider that a bug.

That's a problem with Infra-red technology and I suspect you would have the same issue with the Kindle Touch etc. At least the T1 has hardware buttons as a backup.

My parents never understood why their TV remote would stop working for about 5 minutes after they flipped on their CFL lights. As the bulbs where warming up they put out InfraRed at just the right frequency to overwhelm the IR sensor on the TV

As for the dictionary lookup, I found that sometimes when I long-press a word whose entry does exist in the dictionary, the pop-up says that no entry was found. When I press the pop-up to open the dictionary and press a backspace or two, then the word entry appears in the dictionary lookup results. This just happened to me with "alliterative" with the default dictionary (New Oxford American). In this case, opening the dictionary and pressing the backspace once didn't work, but backspacing twice worked. Maybe this is a fault in the dictionary app, the data index, or something...

As odd as it may seem, it´s normal for me to reset a device the first week or so of use. As time goes by, resetting gets less necessary. It happens with almost all tablets.

I've had it go back to the beginning of a book on 2 occasions, when using the touch screen to page forward. This has happened with 2 different books, although I must add that both of these were .mobi format which I converted to epub with Calibre. I suspect that might be the cause, rather than an issue with the device.
Anyone else seen this?

That is interesting, I would not have thought that would be necessary, but I am always willing to learn new tricks.
