Reset button - does it break apps / UIDs on your rooted T1?

If you press the Reset button - does it break apps / UIDs on your rooted T1, i.e. do you notice "force closed" popups after next boot or do some of your non-sony apps loose settings?

Yes, it does in some way on my device. After a reset, settings get lost, and I have to select a new home application.

me too,i used the reset when some app did a reboot of the device that would go on for ever (3/4 times) and always messed up the apps (force closing)

the fix permission described in the wiki doesn't work,it would be nice to know how to fix the uids

Have you tried the Permission Fix App that I mentioned in the wiki?

Yeah I pressed reset thinking it was just a hard-reboot after it wouldn't shut down, but it reset a load of settings too!

The fix_permissions shell script is the way to go, cause it will fix system apps like Sony Reader App, etc.

Wiki has been updated, it needs latest busybox (v1.19) to work properly.

The best thing is to always keep latest busybox binary and fix_permissions at hand. Either in /system/bin or on desktop computer such that it can be pushed to the T1 via ADB...

Red face

Can someone provide me the .apk files please....?

The rooting and installing is working perfectly - but at once my keyboard hanged, and got a reboot loop (and didn't think beforehand of installing fixpermissions and that busybox thing...)
I've applied the latest hack this afternoon - and everything was going sweet (including gmail sync, market, ...)
=> I've tried to push the apk-files from the market to my device, but that doesn't work either (the market is one of the apps "force closing" so... - am stuck at the moment;

If I only can get the needed script, I maybe can try to transfer it to my device via adb (if I can get it installed on my pc)....

Thanks in advance!

Finding the apk now (on some less trusting web sites) - going to try to download different versions and hashing them, so that I know they don't contain malware

And possibly I'll find the busybox thing too....

In either case, already thanks for the good suggestions here (and sorry if you were already looking to help me ....)

Allright, there seems to be a solution:

Just put a call to fix_permissions to /system/etc/install_recovery.sh:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh

sh /system/bin/fix_permissions -l 2>&1 > /data/fix_permissions.log
I had several crashes when trying stuff / installing apps, etc., which needed a reset, but I did not face any more force closed popups or lost settings!

Credits go to S3raph.

How does one get the fix_permissions shell script installed in the /system/bin directory? (I downloaded the script as text file, saved it to dropbox as a sh file, and tried to run it, but it doesn't seem to work.) Thanks!

The script can only be run via shell - either adb shell or terminal emulator. And you have to gain root access via su.

For putting it into /system/bin, you have to remount system partition rewritable. This can be done via adb, via terminal emulator or via root explorer.

Also, you need to change file attributes for the script to make it executable.
