Thanks Nate, an honest review. I looks like they missed the mark by a very long country mile with this one. That's disappointing, but hopefully Kyobo can fix some of the shortcomings with software updates.

I think many of the limitations you uncovered may be because the device was only intended to be sold in Korea and specifically as an electronic front end for the Kyobo book store. I don't think software or firmware upgrades are going to come from Kyobo or Qualcomm. It's going to take a hacker to make this usable for the rest of us. All I want is a bug-free reading app with true epub and drm support and I'd get one tomorrow.

The problem is that none of the major hackers got their hands on a unit -- so this one will presumably be locked forever.

I've just posted my opinion of the screen.

Man you just killed all my enthusiasm for this device. As bad as your previous review was about the device, I was at least hoping the screen was its saving grace .
Thx for the review. |

I'm sorry, but, I can't take your review of the screen seriously with no frontal pictures and no pictures of color images on it. Seems like your point was just showing the cons, like shallow viewing angles, and that is just unfair.
Btw, this: "The dominant color of the screen is silver, not white like an E-ink screen." is laughable. E-ink is gray. |

Those frontal photos were in the first link with the device review. And current eInk Pearl screens are a very light grey that looks white in direct sunlight - it almost glows, compared to SiPix or older eInk technology, which had a distinctly grey cast, even in good sunlight.

Thanks for the review. It seems that "color e-ink" is still a ways off, unfortunately.

the "Mirasol" display device. There is an actual "Color e-Ink" device, which even in its first exposure is functioning acceptability as an e-textbook reader. If you want a device to watch movies on, as well as read ebooks, that's fine, but there are still some of us who prefer a dedicated eReader. Luck; Ken |

Maybe I will have to settle for a reader than can at least do books, magazines, newspapers, and web pages without video reasonably well. Well, I will just wait it out. |

Your review killed my hopes for mirasol devices, especially the screen looks so washed out.
