PRS-T1 - Collection

Hi,

I have a problem with the collections on my PRS-T1. I’m not sure if the problem is with the reader or witch Calibre. I’ve never tried to manage my collections with something else than Calibre.

I have the last version of the Sony firmware and I’m using the last version of Calibre. I’ve set the management to automatic in Calibre. The books and the collections are on a microSD card. I’ve not tried the internal memory as there is not enough space for all my books there.

I have a library with 7500 books and 54 collections in Calibre.

The problem is that I have collections on my PRS-T1 with more books than I have in reality in Calibre. The wrong books in the collection are all appearing as removing on my PRS-T1. I have the correct number of collections but not the correct number of books in each collection.

I’ve checked the database (library maintenance / check library) and there is no problem.

I’ve tried to format the sd card to restart from scratch. I’ve tried to send all the books in the Sony in one shot and I’ve tried to send them in multiple shots with a reboot of the Sony in between each shot.
But the problem still appears.

Is there anything I can do to solve this ?

calibre will make collections for every series, tag and author, depending on how the device interface plugin is configured.
Look at the Sony PRST1 device plugin and see what is under "comma separated list of metadata fields to turn into collections on the device..."

If you download metadata for a book, you can have a dozen tags and each will become a collection.

Hi,

I had the same problem as Yanikou. After transferring about 250 books to the micro SD card I found that many of the collections had pages and pages of entries with 'removing' on them - which never changed. I then checked that each book only had either a tag or a series in the metadata and went through the following sequence :- Formatted SD card, complete shutdown on PRS-T1, re-started PRS and noticed some collections still present- strange (there were no books/collections in main memory), so re-formatted card again. Re-sent books to the micro SD card on the PRS-T1 and this time everyting worked as expected. Very odd!

PRS-T1 is my first e-reader and after having tried to use the Sony Reader supplied software was feeling very disillusioned with the system. Then discovered Calibre and that changed everything - fantastic software. What rubbish the Sony software is!

Hi Retro,

Under this setting, I have "series, tags". I don't use series in Calibre, only tags. That should be the correct setting even if I don't use the series at all ?

Could you just tell me if you have some books which have multiples tags / collections ?

I don't know if that could be the problem. I have some books with multiple tags.

I also have some tags that change frequently (Reading, ToRead, Read...)

I decided to keep it simple to start with, and just used either a single tag or series

Oh dear, as you were! Added some more books to the SD card today and many of the Collections on the PRS-T1 are now garbage again. I suspect the Sony sofware. Will delete everything on the SD card and then re-load books in one transfer as I did yesterday

I don't use an SD card myself, but I do remember others discussing an SD card problem a few weeks ago. This post from the Calibre/PRST1 guru may give some background. This post, from the same thread, gives a workaround you could try.

I've seen something, don't know yet if it's relevant. When the transfert is ok, and the collections too, the file metadata.calibre on my sony is around 8 mo. If the collections are wrong, the file can be from 28 mo to 42 mo on the Sony.

I haven't yet tried to look inside. Will do that the next time.

Has anyone fixed this issue on their device? I have Collections on the T1 with more books in them than books with that tag in Calibre. Should I delete all books on my T1 and SD Card and re-add them to the device in Calibre?

I am having the same/similar problems:

1) If I add collections manually on the PRS-T1 they are fine on the reader, but the collections info does not reflect in the metadata on calibre.

2) If I add tags in the metadata, the result when I transfer to the card is inconsistent.

First off, thanks to all who developed Calibre, while I loved my Christmas Sony T1, I thought the sync software was so limiting.

I grew my Calibre library and knowledge. They synced. The first time the collections came out great. Then I started changing the tags and series to make sense. I also downloaded books via wifi. My collections, those sent via Calibre showed up with 'removing' when I wanted to look a them. The count was correct however.

I got a new SD card formated on the Sony, latest Sony firmware, latest Calibre and same issues. I should note I do use the Sony reader to sync my pictures and music, which are fine.

No solutions here, waiting until someone more tech savvy than I can point me int the right direction.

Are you sure this is not due to the Sony software and synching?

Synching can cause ALL sorts of problems.
