Locked on 'Connected & Charging'
Hi
When I connect my Kobo Touch to my computer it locks on the black screen 'Connected & Charging' unless I disconnect I cannot access it. Any help would really be appreciated. I'm using Vesion 1.9.16 (r35726, 12/23/11) It has been like this through about 4 updates. Have done factory reset etc. BTW Hate the new front screen, really should have an option to remove. Cheers Mike |

There is no option when you first plug it in to Connect to computer or Cancel?

Hi
Yes, I can cancel, but that really defeats the object of syncing. The Kobo instruction for syncing is as follows: On Your Kobo eReader Connect your eReader to your computer. Launch Kobo Desktop and sign in. Click Sync to download your new book. Eject your eReader and start reading! Mike |

So what are you trying to do? If you want to sync via the desktop, just hit the sync button on the desktop itself. If you then want to read on the Kobo you need to eject it and remove it from the computer. If you want to continue charging plug it back in and click cancel and you can charge it while you read newly sync'd books. When the Kobo is displaying "Connected and Charging" page you can manage the Kobo from the computer only -- either via desktop, using Calibre, or drag and dropping files onto it.

Hi
Guess I'm missing something here. If there was a sync button on the desktop that would probably solve it, but I can't see one. Mike |

Aaaah - so the 3rd button from the right (looks like a mini-kobo) at the top of the desktop and in there you should find a sync to device button. I don't have a cable with me right now, so I can't hook up and see exactly. IF that button is greyed out/inactive that would suggest you have a bad USB cord and it might be powering your Kobo but not properly providing data transfer.

Hi Robko
No sign of a mini-kobo looking button or any buttons on the computer desktop. All I have is the main KOBO logo and Help - English - My Library - My Account - Cart - Sign Out As I said I'm oviously not understanding the syncing process. Mike |

Also, once the Kobo is connected to the PC, it should show up in the Eplorer as a USB drive that you can drop files on. François Last edited by frankieGom; 12-27-2011 at 02:34 PM. Reason: update |

As Francois says, you need to install the kobo desktop. Go here to do that: http://www.kobobooks.com/desktop
And it should look like the attached when you have finished (except the books of course). The kobo icon towards the left of the screen will become active when you plug your kobo in. And when you hit the sync button on the right, it will sync to your kobo. |

Hi frankieGom
Thanks so much for the info, all sorted now. And thanks to Robko for your help. But, why oh why isn't this info provided by Kobo on their site, or why don't they reply to emails asking for help. Once again, many thanks to you both. Mike |

That must be an issue of the FNAC version. The original Kobo, when switched on, insists that it is connected to the Desktop application before you can do anything and so that is the first thing I did when I got mine.

Even on "Kobo by Fnac", instructions should be present on both the home screen and the Kobo by Fnac quick start guide included in the box. I'm surprised to hear that these weren't present, if you can send me details at shasan at kobo dot com (perhaps a photo of the box and contents?) I'd be happy to look into it for you.

Hi,
I have a touch on v1.9.16 which connects ok, and can transfer files using Calibre. After copying, I can choose 'eject device' in Calibre, or eject usb device from the Win7 desktop, but the eReader continues to show 'Connected & Charging'. Should the screen clear? is it safe to disconnect from the computer? So far I've shut the computer down, and then disconnected, but it's not the best option. Do I need to use the PC/Kobo program to eject, even though this pc is not on line, so can't sync with the Kobo website? Thanks for any advice. |
