Free (Nook/Kindle/Sony) The Art of Zen Meditation [Vintage Philosophy Treatise]
The Art of Zen Meditation, by Howard Fast, who incidentally happens to be the author of the novel that the classic film Spartacus was based upon, is his short, illustrated intro to the history and practice of Zen Buddhism.
This is free courtesy of re-publisher Open Road Media, who've just made available a slew of his historical novels in e-book format for $9.99 each (non-Agency, so discountable with coupons at Kobo or whatever the Books On Board % off promo is if it's still applicable). Currently free @ B&N, Amazon (available to Canadians but not yet in the UK), and Sony (available to Canadians; is the UK store open yet or has that been delayed again?). Good chance of showing up at Kobo and iTunes should it get added to their catalogues. There's also two more Open Road Media vintage Fast freebies still available across multiple stores, and if you're interested in trying one of his historical novels, the 1st in a family saga is only $1.99 across all venues and can be further discounted with Kobo coupon. Details of everything in the thread for his Spain and Peace freebie, since I'm not typing/cut-and-pasting it all out again. Description Bestselling author Howard Fast’s straightforward introduction to Zen meditation Howard Fast began to formally practice Zen meditation after turning away from communism in 1956. The Art of Zen Meditation, originally published by the antiwar political collective Peace Press in 1977, is the fruit of Fast’s study: a brief and instructive history of Zen Buddhism and its tenets, written with a simplicity that is emblematic of the philosophy itself. Fast’s study of Zen also inspired his popular Masao Masuto mystery series about a Zen Buddhist detective in Beverly Hills, which he published under the pseudonym E. V. Cunningham. The Art of Zen Meditation is illustrated with twenty-three beautiful photographs. This ebook features an illustrated biography of Howard Fast including rare photos from the author’s estate. |
