0.99 on Kindle e-ink devices (sorry, no touch Kindles yet): Wizard's Choice Volume 1 (e-ink): Wizard's Choice Volume 1 (e-ink)
FREE on the Fire: Wizard's Choice Volume 1 (fire) I’m excited to announce that I’ve released a new 99 cent interactive book called Wizard’s Choice Volume 1. Wizard’s Choice is like a Choose Your Own Adventure on steroids and there’s nothing quite like it on the Kindle Store. For the e-ink version, I published through Amazon Digital Services. These are the same folks that publish many popular Kindle interactive titles. Before publishing, Amazon reviewed my title and put it through a grueling testing process. My customers love the Wizard’s Choice Series on the phone (4.5-4.8 star average depending on platform) and phones aren’t even reading devices! Please give it a shot and post feedback. I want to create great interactive content on the Kindle and your feedback (praise or constructive criticism) can help me figure out what works and what doesn’t. [Image deleted - MODERATOR] Thanks, Sam *** Blurb *** Fortune and glory or death? Your decisions make the difference in Wizard's Choice, a text-based adventure for Kindle. Stay alive, manage your spell power, find treasure, and smite evil. Wizard's Choice is an adventure that will engross you in a storyline while allowing you to make the decisions that will determine your fate. Decisions you make early in the game will affect what happens to you and the choices you get to make later in the game. Wizards Choice will track your health, manna, gold, and morale, so you should take care to manage each well. Your score and rank will be shown at the end, and you can replay as many times as you like to try and improve your rank and score. So what will it be? Glory? Fortune? Death? (two out of three, perhaps?) Last edited by Dr. Drib; 12-18-2011 at 04:49 PM. |

I finally got through to the end of the first book after 5 or 6 tries. I rather enjoyed it, especially the..."interesting" teeth cleaning recipe.
But, my biggest problem with these types of things is that once you know the desired result of a situation, it's pretty easy to make it to the next hurdle with a few clicks. I don't know if it would be possible, but...is there any way to maybe have a random order to the events that take place, or maybe an alternating array of choices that cycle through when you get to that point in the story (like... You have choices A B and C the first time, and the next time through you have choices A F and G). If not that, perhaps 2 or 3 different story starting points that would keep things fresh upon not surviving. Maybe that's all a little much for the Kindle to handle (not sure how it's scripted or what all it entails). But, it was really fun. And I look forward to grabbing the next book and seeing how I do. |

Hey, thanks for checking it out RainingLemur!
Yes, it gets a bit tedious to have to start over and work your way back through the choices, especially when you've identified the best choice for a given question. I remember debating whether I should allow you to just back up a choice or two, but that could easily put the reader in a situation where they would constantly die because they had been so depleted of health and/or manna due to choices earlier on. In the case of Wizard's Choice, there is often a worst choice, ok choice, and best choice so although you think you picked the 'right' one because you didn't lose any health or whatever, in fact, it might have just been the ok choice and so going back through the game allows you the chance to explore other choices and try to do better than earlier runs. Your idea for different choices each time through is cool, however, I think it would definitely add a lot of writing--possibly doubling or tripling it depending on how I did it. Nevertheless, it's good food for thought on alternative game designs. Since you enjoyed Volume 1, I really think you'll dig 2 and 3 because they are more in-depth and longer than 1. Please let me know how it goes. Feedback, even specific feedback on plot points, game design flaws/strengths, etc. is all welcome. Thanks, Sam |
