Formatting for EPub
Do the formatting options on the Kobo Touch work for side-loaded epubs?
I was looking at a Kobo in a store last night, and I liked all the formatting options: font, font size, line spacing, margins, justification. In general, do these work with side-loaded epubs (I'm assuming they work with kepubs)? If I buy a ADE EPub, strip the DRM, and side load it onto the Kobo Touch, will I be able to use the formatting options? I currently use Calibre to do some formatting, and I do have problems on other readers (for example, I can't change the font face/name on a Nook Touch for some EPubs). Thanks. |

![]() You may need to strip the ePub of any embedded fonts or "locked" formatting though, but that's a breeze with Calibre! |

How you know which formatting things are locked (if you take a look css file)? I have some books which formatting is somehow locked so that my Kobo Touch cannot change them. I did not notice anything special on CSS file?

I don't know how to see it in advance, but I've made a habit of converting all books ePub-ePub with Calibre. I have set my standard settings to "minimum line height" 0%, the justification I prefer, "remove fake margins" and also in the relatively new feature "filter style information! I make sure "fonts" are checked.

It's in the "Look and feel" section.
I came with one of the later releases. Don't know which but I have 8.29. |

I don't do any manipulation with Calibre other than that which happen in the background through plugins when I import the books and adding new covers. That means I do not end up with a Calibre stylesheet. At one point, the Calibre stylesheet prevented some of the options Kobo has from working properly. It may be that the "look and feel" adjustments are done to counter that.
