Collecting device stats

It would be interesting and useful for calibre to collect stats on the output profiles used when running news recipes, much like the stats collected for what recipes are accessed. What are the top 5 target devices for news recipes? Inquiring minds want to know!

I don't think the Fetch News PI knows. The job is handed off to conversion. Then handed off again. It might be sent somewhere or just filed.
Calibre only phones home about when it starts (and to see if there is an update). No other info is sent. Other usage would cause HUGE privacy concerns.

Calibre already collects recipe usage stats, and when the recipe is loaded calibre knows what output profile is being used.

Really? Collect = store,
schedule is Not 'Store usage'

Usage is only logged if you use debug mode to make , Doh a log.
That log goes nowhere without your help

When did they add that? It used to show just starts.
IMHO showing that might give those sources

I'm not understanding your comments. What does that FAQ item have to do with this? Calibre records recipe utilization stats and could just as easily record target divide stats. I don't see how either of those are privacy issues.

I have no idea why that changed. I quoted your message above (which is still correct)

output profiles are not really a good indication as

1) Often a single output profile works for multiple devices
2) I suspect most users never change it once it is set by the welcome wizard
3) Many users have more than once device

To do this right, calibre would need to collect the usb ids of detected devices and send those, even then it will miscount people using over the air methods.

Given the amount of brouhaha collecting even the basic usage stats has caused from the tin foil hat brigade, I really don't want to start this, even though I fully agree that doing so is in no way a privacy violation.
