Question Solio Charger

Hi All,

I remember reading about someone trying Solio charger. I have searched and read the thread again, and I'm wondering how effective it is and what charging tip they use(from the mobile phone selection?). I often vacation far from the madding crowd and often equally as far from electricity and would be interested to know what the experience has been like relying on ole mother nature.

Cheers

I have the Solio, but i do not have the Reader.

Regarding the Solio: You need lots of light to charge it. It has a contained 1600 mAH battery inside, which can be charged either by its solar panels or with an AC Wall plug. It comes with a few adapters, of which one is a USB plug. So it should fit right into the Sony reader. It needs about 8 hours of sunlight to be completely charged.

I use the reader sometimes to charge the iLiad, which works, but only gives about 3/4th of a charge. It should give the Sony a full charge and still have some juice left. I will try this with the CyBook soon, which should be compareable to the Sony.

The Solio will not let you charge a device, while charging the Solio. But that shouldnt be a problem.

Although maybe not as green as a solio, you also have other options for charging your reader, since it does have a standard USB connector it can charge from, you can get something like:

there are lots of variations of that kind of device too.

I was browsing around this morning and came upon the Solio charger at REI on sale for 73.99. It normally goes for 99.99. Here's the link if anyone is interested.
