Bug when switching from day to night mode

Has anyone been having problems switching their books in the Kobo app from night mode to day mode or vice versa? I didn't have this issue until about three books ago. Now, when I try to switch the mode, the text disappears into the background. (So, if the background changes to black, the text stays black instead of switching to white).

This hasn't been a serious issue for me, because I simply back out to the library, re-enter the book and the text shows up again, but it is kind of annoying. I wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else was experiencing this issue and to let Vox developers know that it is an issue I'm experiencing.

I haven't had the problem you described, but I'm getting something similar: the night mode toggle only works some of the time; sometimes toggling it does nothing. I like the Kobo app a lot so it would be a real shame to have to use Aldiko or another third-party app.

I had the same problem a few days ago when I clicked onto night mode, but it seemed to work on another book inside my library so I thought it was something about that particular book that stopped it working properly.

Just now I thought I'd test out the night mode with a few books, I checked 1 imported book and two new books I just purchased over the last couple of days from Kobo and night mode isn't working on any of them properly. It seems like the white text, or rather the text that supposed to be white in night mode, isn't changing colours at all.

One particular book I checked has the chapter highlighted in a blue/green and that's the only text that's showing in night mode. So I reckon the text isn't changing in night mode when clicked so is disappearing into the black background.

Is the night mode dependant on the clock, like it is on a GPS?

I thought this had to do with the way the book was formatted or the font. I had this hit 'n miss experience also, but only with certain books. I only had this so far with free books like from Gutenberg, etc, but not from Kobo themselves.

You're right. I have had it happen with the past three books, but I didn't make the connection that they were all sideloaded. (I had never had this issue with sideloaded books before). It isn't happening with kepubs. I suppose that makes it a formatting issue and not necessarily a Kobo issue.

I did a search online after my testing above of both side-loaded and Kobo bought brought negative results for me in night mode. It seems you're probably right about it being about the individual book's formatting which affects whether the book can be read in night mode. A poster on the goodereader forum posted a FAQ/Hints post about the Vox mentioned this very issue saying it depends on the book whether night mode will work properly.

To double check I went back and checked a book I had read in night mode and a couple of others and they all three worked perfectly fine while the one's I tried this afternoon still don't. It's also doesn't seem to matter whether or not the book is side-loaded as two of those I was able to read were imported to my Kobo not kepubs while two that didn't (and still don't) work in night mode were kepubs.

Yes, the bug occurs when the text color is set to black. Night mode only changes the font color if it is not fixed. Black on black is hard to read...
