Screen greyish?

I use to have a Nook ST and remember the screen having a grey quality to it. Is that representative of the current ones being released? Did the recent updates affect it in any way?

That is the way e-ink technology works. Every e-ink screen has a gray background. So that has not changed.
But the recent update did make the text look sharper/clearer.

No...

I've owned quite a few, and the Nook ST had a noticeably greyer background. In fact that was why I returned it.

I also thought the touch screen was grey-- at least compared side by side to my original nook. Since the last update the text has definitely gotten sharper. I can tell because it's easier to read in a dark room. I would say go to a store to see how the update looks, but the display models may still have the older version of software.
