Is being released, my fire just updated. Sorry I misread what the update is for, it actually doesn't say what the update is for.

I rebooted mine when I noticed the same thing. It immediately started updating, then rebooted by itself.

According to the instructions, do a settings->sync, then put it in standby. Mine rebooted within a few minutes after that, and now I'm on 6.2.

According to Amazon: To update your Kindle, ensure you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and that your battery is fully charged. Tap the Quick Settings icon in the upper right corner of your device, then tap "Sync." The software update will automatically download in the background and will be applied once download is complete and the device is asleep.


You can even download the update directly from Amazon and sideload it. It's a big update, 181 MB.

Interesting, it appears I'm not able to restore root using OTA RootKeeper. Maybe the backup files were wiped. I am able to start Android Market. Will try to root again.
