Amazon: Kindle Black Friday sales quadruple; Kindle Fire tops sales

...and B&N says Nook Color is the current top selling Android tablet.

But just how many Kindle eReaders and tablets were sold? Amazon, again isn't saying, falling in line with the online retail giant's practice of not releasing specific numbers for its Kindle sales.

Since the first Kindle eReader was launched in 2007, Amazon has yet to release any specific sales numbers, only ever saying that the Kindle has sold millions.

Likewise, Barnes & Noble has made it a practice of never sharing its specific sale numbers for its eReader or tablet sales thus far. However, the company does say its Nook Color tablet is currently the top-selling Android tablet on the market.

A news person would ask how fast does the new ship go. The standard answer was it was the fastest ever and was in excess of 30 knots.

Not like it will affect me. But I wonder why amazon doesn't whip it out & announce how many they've sold. They have to know.

Of course they know, they just don't want their competitors to know.

Besides, as far as marketing goes, vague assertions like these are almost as good as hard numbers. Possibly better....

My friend here bought one. Kinda unresponsive touch display, to the point of feeling a bit like laggy resistive tech.

People wishing to use it as a general-purpose tablet are in for disapointment. Got no camera, possibly no gyroscope, plays exclusively mp4 movies etc. My gosh, an Android device without the gorgeous swype input method (probably wouldn't play nicely with the bad touch display anyway)!

Now I see why it's cheap. Probably hardware not much better than the infamous Coby Kyros. Only more focused and integrated with Amazon services.

People from other countries stay away, at least for now. Here in Brazil, Amazon store not available at all. You use it just as a limited, cheap and small tablet for reading PDF (with stuttering page changes), perhaps a few other formats and videos and photos, along with perhaps some basic music playback.

That is my quick impression from some minutes handling it. He's wishing to root it and put a full Android in there, since Amazon integration is useless here. I hope the hardware is up to the task.

I don't doubt their numbers. Heck, they even suckered me into buying another with the big discount on the DX. I need another ereader like a need a hole in my cranium.

But now that it's here I love it.
