0.8.26/7/8... hasn't updated.
My Calibre Home/Library page shows I have have .8.26, and .8.27 is available.

I've hit get update, it loads, etc... But when I now open Calibre again, I find I'm still on .8.26, with, again, update .8.27 available....

I then check, and find I have, in my Downloads list, .8.28 !

Should I run/manually install this, or what have I done wrong ?

When you select the Update button in Calibre it takes you to the update page where you can download the updated version. It does NOT install the download - you have to do that manually while Calibre is not running. In other words the Calibre feature is just a notification of the availability of an update and is not an auto-update facility.
