Reader Unable to start

I've had my PRS 505 for 2 yrs now, and recently i've come up with a rather unfortunate event. My reader won't boot at all, nothing showing on screen, nothing at all. I charge it using the USB for as long as it needs, till the red light goes off. Then i try switching it on, nothing. I repeat the same procedure, only this time, i reset (using the small button on the back of the reader) it and then try powering it on. The power LED goes orange, the screen blank as always, and then the LED starts blinking (orange again), but to no avail once again.

I have to admit that my battery has been showing me bad signs lately, as its life became shorter and shorter. Do you think i can do anything else or my battery is completely off and i need to buy another one? Everytime i start charging it again (using USB), the red light goes on again for about 20-30 mins, before going off. But still, when i power it on again it stays stubbornly off (no LED light, nothing at all on screen). Only when i press reset and THEN power it on, the orange light goes on for 20 seconds or so, before starting to blink (screen again completely blank), till it goes completely off again.

Thank you so much for your help

Hi voyage,

welcome to MR and sorry to hear from your problem.

Any chance to get your hands on a PSP-mains-charger?
The one with the yellow-tip barrel-connector. (Any brand will do)

Try to charge with this mains-charger, you can also reset and startup, then other as with USB-charge the reader is responsive while power with a mains-charger, and should come to live.

HTH

Just to back up Mark's suggestion, I believe that when the 505 was new to the market, here on the forums there was discussion that if the 505's battery drains completely, it was not possible to revive it with just computer USB charging. That is why I bought the original Sony charger back when I bought my 505. Since then I also bought an aftermarket PSP charger, and that worked just as well.

My 505 was showing signs of shorter and shorter battery life too so I recently replaced my PRS-505 battery. I purchased the new battery through newpower99.com I followed their video and used the tools that came with the battery purchase. My 505 is now back up and running with battery life similar to when it was first purchased.

Thanks a lot guys. Right now i dont have a PSP charger, but i will try to find one and give your suggestions a shot. I will inform you in case of any update.

@dwanthny: Although in case of deciding to replace the battery, i believe ebay is a cheaper option
