view only new posts + only in this forum

have tried & failed to puzzle this out.

how to set up mobilereadforums to show all new posts since last visit but only in specified forums e.g. only in calibre main, or only in calibre & sigil ?

then save that so it is a one-click operation in browser favourites

If you register and login, threads with new posts since your last visit are in bold. AFAIK, that's the best you can do.

well that's crap really - as the above method gives you pages of clutter from forums that you may not be interested in.

I have to resort to a daily "mark forum as read" to make it easy to see what's really new on next visit.

is there somewhere more relevant here I can air this, as it is not a calibre issue per se ?

Yep

Down in the Miscellaneous part of MR, in Feedback

One of the reasons I prefer Forte' Agent newsreader (NNTP only) is show only Unread filter (and you have to 'Subscribe' to those forum you want to see in your Desk)

I don't see the clutter problem at all. I have bookmarks to the calibre forum, Sigil and Moderators, and I use those bookmarks almost exclusively. I seldom ever look at the list of forums, so new posts in other forums are never seen by me (unless I've posted in them). Clicking one of my direct links shows me all new posts in forums I'm interested in. Checking my CP page (to which I have another direct link) gives me a list of all threads I've posted into that have new posts since I read that thread (that's better than since I last visited MR, as I may read some threads during a visit, but not all). (I have "subscribe automatically to threads I post in" turned on.)

My normal procedure is quite simple - I check CP for threads I've worked on, then check the forums of interest via my bookmarks. All bold threads are threads I have not posted in, that have new posts since my last visit to the thread list for that forum. I read what I want, which unbolds the thread, then mark the forum read.

that's what I do , x 3 ( sigil, Sony, Calibre ).

now compare that with other boards that I use where my bookmark takes me directiy to new posts on that board, & leaving + returning auto sets what I saw last time to "not new" whether I red each thread or not. so no need to ever manually mark forum as read. much slicker.

I'll try the forum exclusion suggestion

thanks - not that obvious is it ?

Actually , when I got there I had lots of forums excluded already so maybe I found it ages ago, but lots of forums have been added to the board since then. I guess the lest needs regular maintenance!

I read most threads in the forums of interest, so I seldom have to manually mark a forum as read. I don't like sites that autoset all posts/forums to read whether read or not, as I prefer to keep track. At MR, threads with new posts are automatically moved to the top of the thread list. I can easily see not only the threads that I've read with no new posts and threads I read with new posts, I can also easily see threads that I skipped last time that have no new posts - they're all down near the bottom (below threads I've read) and they're still bold. If I've got more time later, I may read them, or I may just let them scroll away.

Haha, yeah. A forum with as many sub forums as mobileread probably needs an inclusion list rather than an exclusion list if you're using the 'New Posts' feature. I've tried to trim as many off as possible, I still usually have 7 pages worth of threads to skim through every day.

Hardly seems worth the effort - 'specially if you want to refer back, or are forgetful, which I do, and am, all the time !

the trick of bookmarking the new posts page does not work properly anyway, I made a link yesterday - tried it today - no matches,
when I then clicked directly on show new posts instead , I saw a different search ID in URL. so search ID must be dynamic. it also seems not possible to vary sort order for new posts & group primarily by forum, not by time & date
