wich one is better?!
I'm a big fan of eBook reading, so, I'm going to buy something to read my eBook on it, after some searches in Google, i found kindle can be one of my best choices
so i have only a little question about it, i just reads PDF's, the color is not important, just, one thing, reading PDF on kindle 6" its not bothering or hardly to read ? for example, moving to left and right, every time want to go to the next line, or the fonts, are to small that can be readable. at all, whats the problem in reading PDF's document on kindle 6"? |

As I understand pdf ain't good on kindle. Kindle doesn't reflow them, so if text doesn't fit ion the screen you'll have to move left-right for every line. I think most pdfs will be to hard to read on kindle - text to small if you fit in in screen and zooming options are very limited.
I wish it had better support. |

It depends on the type of document you are trying to read:
Simple texts can be converted to .mobi using for instance Calibre (which will also allow you to easily preview the final result, as it will appear to on your eReader). If such texts are all you wish to read, then there's no reason to worry about PDF support. However, if the text contains graphs, tables, and the like, then this conversion does not work very well. One solution is to read the PDF in landscape-mode, which works well as long as the text-size is not too small. I do this for the technical works I have on my kindle (programming books mainly). A special case is academic articles, since these tend to use two columns of text, which is often too small to read comfortably even in horizontal mode, and often contain figures and tables. While can zoom in on any PDF, the panning is rather rough, and it can be difficult to get the Kindle to center on the column you wish to read, while still at a comfortable level of magnification. Since the ability to read academic articles without having to lug around a stack of papers was part of my reasons for buying the Kindle, I have written a script that splits the pages of such texts into either a 2x2 grid for reading in portrait-mode, or two columns for reading in landscape-mode (I'm still trying to figure out which I prefer). This significantly eases reading of academic texts. If you are interested, I can post it here. |

The E-book Reader Matrix has a row on PDF Capabilities. Almost all readers that use mobile Adobe Digital Editions include "Single Page Reflow" which treats each page of the PDF like a text-based web page. The 6" EInk reader with the best PDF support (reflow and zoom) is likely the Sony PRS-T1.
The advantage of a tablet with a LCD screen (Fire or Nook Color/Tablet or Kobo Vox) is that pan and zoom can be faster. On the Fire and Vox you will be able to install 3rd party apps, including PDF reading apps, although the Fire might (or might not) be limited to apps from Amazon's own app store. The Nook Color can be jailbroken to allow 3rd party apps. I don't have any experience with how well a 7" tablet screen works for PDFs with the available apps. |

PDF's are largely hit-or-miss on the Kindle. I'll generally just use my Nook Color for PDF's since I haven't had any issues (that I can recall) with it.

If you're interested in PDFs and only PDFs, then the answer is simple... don't buy a 6" Kindle; buy something else—probably a tablet of some sort.
Yes, PDFs can be created or manipulated to be optimized for a 6" screen, but finding PDFs that are already optimized is nearly impossible and manipulating them yourself to get them optimized can be a pain in the ass (depending on your skillset). And even if you're willing to overlook all that... the Kindle still won't reflow PDFs. If PDF is your bag, then walk right past all the 6" Kindle devices. Don't even glance at them. You'll only be disappointed. |

I've been looking for a while for something that can support my heavy use of pdfs, and so far it seems like ipad is the best alternative. I haven't bought anything yet, though.

I use the iPad for pdfs, 6" readers are too small imo. Not sure about the kindle DX, that may work well, anyone have one care to comment?

I don't have any experience myself, but I've read mixed reviews on it (I was looking into getting one), partially on the annotation/ notes side. I got the impression that it's not bad if you're just reading pdf-s a to z, but not great if you want more flexible options. But as I said, that's just stuff I've read online on amazon user forums and the like.

Use a program like foxit to remove the unnecessary picture and graphs and then let calibre to convert to Mobi or Epub works quite well
If you need lot of Picture etc then wait for the new colour Kindle tablet some time next year ;-) |
