Pocket eDGe time is innacurate
I connect to the internet only occasionally via high speed WiFi at my local library. With Automatic checked in Settings/date & Time, the time remains innacurate. I set the time using Set date with no trouble but over a period of several weeks it slowly drifts off by several minutes.
It is not really a problem but it seems odd. |

For a reason only known to Entourage they coupled the time update to their servers and now because the servers a shut we no longer time sync from them.
The time drift is because the timing circuit in the devices isn't that well regulated. It changes with temperature, both internal and external which points to the timing crystal having a very poor specification. I get a variation of about 4 minutes a week so I manually set the time every monday. |

yeah that was one of the first things I tried to look for when I got mine - doesn't even seem like they're using ntp, and I could not find anything relevant in the sqlite dbs either. blah.

altho instead of installing ntp oneself, this seems worth a try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688177 (requires root, natch) installed from market and seems to work just fine. does what it says on the tin. looks like it is just a standard ntpdate/ntpclient rather than a proper ntpd, so it will jerk the clock around instead of gracefully drifting it, but still. also in the settings there is some sort of "rootless" mode but I was not able to test it. good enough. |

The lack of true NTP sync'ing apparently was never implemented, but launching the Registration app does still successfully update the time... |

I've been wondering about this! Thanks all of you for the info, and bouldergramp for the question.
![]() I just tried Boris's trick and it worked!! Not that I minded having my eDGe clocks a little fast -- kept me on my toes! ![]() |
