Unhappy Adobe Digital and Calibre. Do I need to import my epubs to both of them?

I have a kobo touch which I am pleased with
Been trying to get the data and covers for books I found on the net
Imported the epub files into Adobe Digital But it did not find most of the covers

Tried out Calibre and it found nearly all of them So want to use that.

What do I do with the Adobe Digital imported files?

If i plug my reader in and open Adobe (to download any library books or books bought through Kobo) it will show double files.

Help

All you need ADE for is to download .ascm files (what you generally get when you download ePubs from a library's site) and to copy DRM'd ePubs (that weren't downloaded directly onto your device by Kobo) to your device.

To add to what Gumby said, you can't import DRM'd ePubs into Calibre. All the books that you have bought from Kobo and downloaded in ePub are only able to be used with ADE.

If you want to use Calibre you would have to DeDRM the files......... And we can't exactly help you with that on MR (Against forum rules to go into detail.)

Angry

Thanks. Not planning on trying to change drm books. Just like calibre now as I can change covers and data on free books i find
So can I not add books i buy from kobo and library booka also to calibre after they are imported into ADE?

Also my main quesrion now is -
I imported my books into calibre yesterday and got all covers etc looking good.
I have not opened ADE since as know it will throw up loads of errors and double books now.
What do I do?
Do I delete all my free books now from ADE?
Or should they appear there too?

Or just leave the drm and library ones?
Very confused lol

Will not open ADE till i hear from you lol

If you want to use Calibre to change covers etc then I think it's easier to send your ebooks directly to your Kobo from Calibre by using the "Send to Device" button which appears when you connect your Kobo to your computer using the USB cable.

For your library books (where you wouldn't be changing covers or removing DRM or anything) you can just drag and drop them directly from ADE without the Calibre step.

As you select which books you want to transfer to your Kobo you won't get any doubles unless you transfer them both from ADE and Calibre so you just need to decide which program you want to use for particular ebooks. Neither of these programs will transfer books unless you select them to be transferred to your device.

If you also sync your Kobo with the Kobo desktop you will get doubles of the books you have purchased from Kobo. Whenever I sync (which I never do unless there is an important update) I always remove my books from the "I'm Reading" section so that they don't transfer to my Kobo. As I have quite a lot of books this is very tedious and so that's why I rarely sync my Kobo.

Do remember though that only the Kobo formatted books (kepubs) will sync across devices. If you are now reading using both the Vox and a Kobo eINK reader or another device running a Kobo App, you will want to use them.

For my own use, I download everything I buy using ADE, for backup purposes. DRM free books, I manage using Calibre.

You can, btw, use Aldiko on the Vox for your ADE and non-DRM books. It too can sync across devices, if you happen to have more than one that runs the software.

You can have them in both places without any problems. Just remember to send only one copy to your Touch.

Me too, I use Calibre for my Magically DRM free ebooks . For Library books you can't in any way possible (With DRM) import them into calibre, BUT if you have the latest version of Calibre you can change covers on books you have bought from Kobo and are on your Touch.

Actually, I believe that as long as the ACSM file has been processed by ADE (which it HAS to be if the library book is in ADE), that you can add the book to Calibre and do the synchronization through it. You will not be able to open the book in Calibre but you should be able to sync it to the Touch.

Calibre displays an update notice link at the bottom of your screen. Current version is 0.8.25. Click on the link when one shows and it brings you to the download site.

Current Kobo Touch firmware is 1.9.12. This will be installed automatically via either Kobo desktop OR a sync. via WiFi.

Once that is done, when reading a book go to the menu (tap bottom of screen in the middle) and go the Font Icon (the two AA's). Then you can select Font Face.

You can also add more fonts in by creating a directory (case sensitive) fonts in the root directory of the Kobo, and then copying the desired fonts in.

Names ARE important. See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=46

I'm not sure if I am understanding your concern? Are you worried about having 2 copies of your books on your Kobo? Or are you worried about having your books in ADE as well as in Calibre?

If you now have duplicates on your Kobo you can delete one of them from the device (probably using ADE to remove the ADE copy would be best if you wish to keep the Calibre copy on your Kobo.)

If you are concerned by having a copy of your books in ADE as well as a copy of your books in Calibre please don't be. I have all my books in ADE, and also in Calibre. I also have backup copies on a portable hard drive, several USB sticks and a laptop.

Having your books stored in more than one place is a good practice as if you should unfortunately suffer from a program malfunction or a computer crash you really don't want to lose your books do you? Even if they are freebies they may no longer be free or available or even just the time it takes to locate and download them would make replacement a nuisance. Obviously you also need to back up the books you have purchased as even though most companies store them for you it is not unheard of for people to lose access to them when formats change or companies cease to trade.
