Interactive book question
I've read articles that have described interactive books, and I would like to design one myself. I'd like to produce an algebra book that contains written text (for those who learn best by reading), as well as short video lectures (for auditory learners), and automated drills (to put what you have learned into practice).
Here's my question -- Is the infrastructure in place to create an interactive book? It doesn't look like the mobi file format can be used to include things like video and automated drills. Amazon does have a Kindle Development Kit (KDK) for the Kindles, but it is just a beta program, doesn't support video, and only a select few seem to have access to this program. The Kindle Fire does support video and automated drills, but seems to be missing the book side of things. Are there any interactive android books? I could do everything in a website, but I'd prefer to encapsulate this as a book that I can sell through the Amazon bookstore. I'm just interested in any insights that the Mobileread users might have-- even if you don't have any answers for me. Last edited by Daithi; 10-20-2011 at 06:36 PM. |

I've not seen any Android interactive books...
You can create an html document with links and send it to a Kindle... Which makes me wonder if you'd be able to write some kind of javascript calculator that would sit in that "document" that would function properly without having to be "online" to have it fire, thus possibly allowing you to create a random array of equations for the reader to solve to apply what they've read/learned. |

It appears like the upcoming KF8 format may be the exact thing for which I've been looking.

You can create books with multimedia content using "Kindlegen", but they are only playable on one of the "Kindle for <whatever>" apps, not on the Kindle reader. There's a multimedia sample book supplied with Kindlegen.
