Hello from a newbie

I have a Sony PRS-300. Love it! I enjoy using my 300, although I would love it to do so much more... such as having both e-ink and color lcd screens where you can toggle between them (saving battery life) while hosting all of the features of a droid complete with cell phone svc all while being the size & weight of the 300. Whew... I know we will have something like that in a couple of years... we shall see.

I am looking at the Prs-T1 as a potential upgrade... need more input first.

I have only had my prs-300 six months, and am fairly new to the whole eBook thing. I have friends who have the Nook, Kindle & iPad. They seem to love their devices, but they all seem to have the same complaint with DRM's and converting/loading books on their devices. Some cannot even load eBooks from other sources like Gutenberg project, Google books etc on their Nooks and other devices. Is it user issues or what?

You would think some sort of standard would be set or at least manufacturers would make their devices able to read all formats. Seriously. I was miffed when I purchased my first book from Barnes and Noble, I was leaving for a trip, needed to read a book for one of my clubs, saved 4 dollars buying the book from B&N vs Sony Reader store.. but was stuck reading the book on my smart phone because my 300 couldn't deal with the stupid drm (yes I checked for software updates). Right then and there I was so irritated with B&N for their stupid drm that except for freebies, I refuse to do business with them.
Besides, I loath their app for the droid, it is terrible compared to Aldiko. Sheesh.

So I hope to learn from and share with everyone here!

Hi ohthatpaula and welcome to MobileRead. I just got a T1 and am very pleased with it, especially the screen which is much clearer than my old 505.

Unfortunately enTourage has gone out of business so there are no new models being made. But the mobileread community has embraced the entourage edge (EE) and the Pocket Edge (PE)!
