Android Tablet Recommendation
I'm looking to replace my Nook Color which is becoming more and more unstable with endless crashes and a power cord that only charges if placed in a certain exact position and then not disturbed.
I loved the Nook until it became so wonky, and in particular loved Cool Reader for my epubs. Despite the people that rail against backlit ereaders, they work much better for me as I do most of my reading in the dark. I'm currently using my Nook Color at the beach and while not optimal it certainly is readable in sun, for the relatively rare occasions I need it for that. So, any recommendations for a light tablet, not too expensive and hopefully stable? |

Why don't you contract tech support and request a new cable? It's a known issue. I've had mine replaced over the phone.

The power cord actually isn't the thing that did me in. It's an annoyance but I've learned to live with it.
The constant bugginess and crashing is what killed me. The ThinkPad looks pretty good for my needs. And it comes in pink! ![]() Thank you. Addendum: Not available until November. ![]() Last edited by Marcy; 10-13-2011 at 12:07 AM. |

I don't know what your budget is, but I love my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It's quick, supports flash, connects to bluetooth keyboards/mice, thinner and lighter than the iPad 2...
etc etc |

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" wifi plus has just passed FCC certification and 16gb version is supposedly going to be sold for around $400. Even if you don't get that the older version should discount to around $300.

For a cheap android tablet, I would wait for the Kindle Fire release and being able to root it(By the look of the enthusiasm from the potential users, it won't take long)
Hardware wise it seems very capable and it looks like a linear upgrade from your nook color. |

Lack of SD card slot may not be appealing.

ah, thanks for pointing that out. Yes it could be an issue if you're planning to load movie/music in it instead of streaming(which is what it's intended to do). However, just for storing apps and reading books/magazine, it shouldn't be much of an issue(that's how I use my iPad2).

I just picked up a Asus eee pad transformer as a christmas gift for the wife; about as heavy as the original ipad, but more features overall than the samsung, including a micro sd card slot. I also like the keyboard addon that adds an extra 8 hours or so of battery life. Otherwise the specs are pretty much the same as the samsung (and most other new android tablets), plus it's priced competitively.

@ the $300+ range you have the Acer a100, Flyer, Dell Streak 7, Vizio 8"
@ $200+ Lenovo A1, Acros. @ $200 Fire, AirPad The Acer and the streak have Honeycomb both have Tegra2 dual core chips. I think the A1, Fire and AirPad are the best device for the price. Many folks really like the Vizio 8" Another option is to install CM7 on your nook. It sounds like you rooted your nook. Installing CM7 is no harder. CM7 is a very stable release and works much better than the stock OS, in my opinion. =X= |

Great suggestion. Excellent way to re-kindle (pun intended) the attraction. Replacing the stock ROM gave me a few extra months with my NOOKcolor.

Pandigital 9" at Amazon is about $135. It comes loaded with B&N software already, can load Kobo, Kindle, and pretty much whatever other software on it. For the price, it's excellent.
