Recommend me an mp3 player
Main use is for listening to audio drama recorded from the radio, and for listening to vinyl records I have digitised. The records will stay on it all the time, whereas the radio stuff will go on until I listen to it, then get deleted.
I'm looking for (must have): FLAC support (16bit/44k) Album cover images to choose what to play (and maybe scroll through them?). Album cover image displayed while playing. Able to jump forward in a playing track at various different rates, or even better sate what position I want it to start playing from. Opens as a normal drive that I can copy files onto and delete as required (no itunes or similar nonsense). I would also like (but not essential) mp2 support (48k sampling rate). Video file support (any format will do). Simple card/dice type game (Yahtzee, Hearts, etc) to play on when I get bored. |

I use my LG Optimus One for playing music. I can play Video (No flash though) tons of card games from the App Market, camera, and not to mention a phone. I only pay $25 a month for it and get 50 minutes (7pm and weekends) 50 texts and 100mb of data, but you can get unlimited talk and text plans for $45.
Or of course you don't even need to buy a phone plan and just use it as a computer, MP3 player, video player, and make calls through WiFi If you're thinking of the Ipod Touch or Nano, the phone costs about the same. Last edited by The Terminator; 10-13-2011 at 07:36 PM. |

I think what you ask for does not exist as one combined device.
You are describing a smartphone, with Android. If you want a good quality mp3-player that also play flac (and vorbis) I would recommend Sandisk Sansa. Depending on your physical size requirements, the Clip(+) is the smallest one and the Fuze is a bit larger. Both has internal memory up to 8 (or 16) GB, and, in addition, a MicroSDHC card slot. Plays video that may be converted by the bundled media converter, has radio and voice/sound recorder. It's not online, but podcasts can be sideloaded. It connects as a mass storage device and shows up with two disk letters. |

From what I've read, one needs to be careful on the mp2 format capability which even though devices that support mp3 should support mp2, many do not. I haven't found anything on the Galaxy player saying anything about mp2 yet.

You should definitely look into the Sansa Fuze (not Fuze+) or Sansa Clip and Rockbox it (if the non-essentials are really non-essential). A lot of (self-proclaimed lol) audiophiles love Rockbox and the Sansas, especially the Clip, for the audio quality, ability to play different lossless formats (like FLAC), and customization of nearly everything in the player (equalizer, themes, games, gain, etc.). You can dual boot with Rockbox and the original firmware.

At the moment I'm leaning towards either a Creative ZEN X-Fi2 , or an Archos 5 tablet (probably a bit too big/heavy though). I bought Mrs Ploppy a Sansa Clip+ a while ago, that was supposed to support Flac but when you try to copy them onto it it just moans about incompatible file type.

Yep, both mine (Fuze) and my wifes (Clip) did that too. You have to update the firmware on the Clip+, which can be done with the bundled software or directly from the Clip+ website.

If you want a wide range of formats and really nice sound,go for a Cowon device.

OP never said he/she wanted web browsing, touchscreen, apps, camera, or cell phone. Check the list in the first post. Reading comprehension is fundamental. ![]() |

What I suggested was a Multi-purpose device. By the way the $150 price tag is to buy the phone outright, no contract at all. And try watching movies on a 1.9 inch screen right? A 3.5-4 inch screen is much better.
I know they never mentioned anything about Touch, Web, Cam or anything else, but they did say they wanted Games, Movie's, and music. So for around the same price you get all that plus Web, Touch, Cam and phone (if you ever wanted to activate it). Android has a ton of card games (And a ton of other games like ABR) |
