Saving online fiction
It's a long shot but maybe possible.
I just recently learned to make single htm from multiple ones. Since it makes a book just from one htm file with links to files in it I wanted to know if it is possible to save online fiction using this. I mean if there is an index page (go to book and all chapters with links to them). Could I save the index page somehow and when have all book just like I would if I had all chapters copied? (I tried that and got only that one page although I could press links to chapters, but they open in my browser) Or maybe copying links off all chapters and adding them one after another in some htm file or something. Or is there any other way to not need copy paste text of 100 chapters to have a copy in calibre? Basically I read a lot of online fiction, but I hate to read on browser. I find it better to read from an epub. Any thoughts are welcome |

I have suggestion that will make your life easier.
![]() There is a Firefox plugin called Grab my book, that compile html pages into an epub file. ( Which Calibre easily can convert to mobi if you have a Kindle) You can add feeds to the plugin, and when the webpage gets updated, so does the ebook ( or I assume. I haven't used it.). |

you're a life saver. It looks amazing. And it's smart enough not to grab page menus etc.
Just need to figure out a way for shortcuts to work as now pressing "L" saves a bookmark ![]() I changed layout to flat (of plug in) and pressing L twice and enter works fine. I love shortcuts ![]() Update: After using it a little I think it's great. I only wish it could grab a book from all pages. It has some troubles with some. Doesn't work if text is in a table. Well you can always use grab selection (unless the right click is disabled). Also I think format isn't preserved which isn't really important for my own reading and often is very simple but it would be nice. So to sum up, it is very useful if grab link, grab page works. I already saved a few very long online fiction stories. But some I will have to save manually (tables and some pages like live journal etc) Last edited by Noughty; 10-10-2011 at 10:11 AM. |

There are also a few Chrome extensions that are useful, depending on the file type output you want.
dotEPUB (epub, obviously) Send to Kindle Kindle It Later on Kindle If you have multiple URLs for one story (especially from sites like Livejournal or Dreamwidth) you can use Squee!book to output a number of file choices. http://dev.squeebook.net/ |

I don't use chrome but this tool seems to do the job nicely too. Thanks for sharing it. It extracts finely from livejournal and doesn't add comments. |
